Post date: Sep 3, 2019 5:40:16 PM

For The Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost on August 25, 2019

Isaiah 66:18-23

Hebrews 12:4-24 (25-29)

Luke 13:22-30

The Narrow Door

22 He went on his way through towns and villages, teaching and journeying toward Jerusalem. 23 And someone said to him, “Lord, will those who are saved be few?” And he said to them, 24 “Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. 25 When once the master of the house has risen and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, open to us,’ then he will answer you, ‘I do not know where you come from.’ 26 Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’ 27 But he will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you come from. Depart from me, all you workers of evil!’ 28 In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God but you yourselves cast out. 29 And people will come from east and west, and from north and south, and recline at table in the kingdom of God. 30 And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”

Missions

Relay for Life: Saturday, August 31st at 4:30 will be the Relay for Life event in Creston. Any money collected from Cans for Cancer will be given to the American Cancer Society. The box is located in the Narthex for the convenience of your cans/bottles, or money can be given directly to Julie Lang. Thank you all for your continued support to this very important cause, so maybe someday cancer will be a disease no one has to endure! This can collection is an ongoing project throughout the year.

Mission Presentation: Gary Thies of Mission Central will be joining us on Sunday, Sept. 8. He will give a presentation on the financial support needed for missionaries all around the world and here in the U.S. and will display artifacts from all over the world, in the fellowship hall, following Divine Service. This presentation will also be shown via Skype at our Mt. Ayr location.

Following the presentation the mission board will be serving a light lunch of pulled pork sandwiches, chips, and bars. A free-will donation will be taken to help support the missionaries of Mission Central.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend this presentation. Think about who you are as God’s child, redeemed by Christ, and how you can support sharing the Gospel locally and abroad.
