June 9, 2019 Pentecost Sunday

Post date: Jun 11, 2019 4:37:54 PM

For Pentecost Sunday on June 9, 2019

Genesis 11:1-9

Acts 2:1-21

John 14:23-31

23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.

25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. 28 You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe. 30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me, 31 but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.

Life Together

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance. On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand the card to an usher.

Thank You: Rachel Circle would like to thank all of the 60-70 people who came to our fish fry and for bringing all the delicious side dishes and desserts! A special thank you to Pastor, Jim Hagen and Phil Wardenburg for providing the fish and frying it, along with the assistance of their helpers. God blessed us with a really beautiful evening! We hope to have many more like this. The special offering that was gathered amounted to a generous $181.00, so with the other $250.00 already voted on to give Camp Okoboji from our LWML general account for cabin renovation, the total will be $431.00. Thank you all again.

Introduction/Review - Lutheran Teachings/Catechesis: Pastor Rutz started teaching a class for those who would like to learn more about LCMS Lutheran teachings and for those who would like a refresher course on LCMS Lutheran teachings. The class is on Thursday evenings from 7:00-8:30pm and will meet in the Fellowship Hall at our Creston location. If you missed the first two classes but are still interested in attending, please phone Pastor at 641-782-5095 or 712-621-5971.

LCMS National Offering The 67th Regular LCMS National Convention will be held in Tampa, FL on July 20-25, 2019. Every congregation is invited to participate in a National Offering which will set the tone for the next triennium under the theme “Joy to the World” preparing hearts for prayerful rejoicing, gratitude, and bold action. Gifts will go directly to the mission of the LCMS to make known the Good News of Jesus Christ, joy incarnate, to the world. Next Sunday, June 16, we will have a special door offering for this National Offering. Those offerings will be sent with our circuit voting delegate who will be attending the convention in Tampa.

VBS in Creston will be held Sunday, June 23-Wednesday, June 26 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Some flyers are available on the table in the narthex. Feel free to take one to share with others.

Camp Okoboji offers many youth camps starting in April thru the first of August. If any of our youth are interested, please go to the Camp Okoboji website and check them out. Trinity has scholarship money and will pay up to half of the fee depending on how many apply for funds. Turn in your receipt in August and we will reimburse you. Brochures are available on the table in the narthex.

MISSIONS

Trip to Mission Central: In a few short weeks we will be traveling to Mission Central in Mapleton to tour the Creation Museum/Theatre at 10:45, have a free lunch at noon and then at 1:00 listen to Pastor Stephen Oliver as he tells of his missionary work in Taiwan. Remember the date is Saturday, July 27! A sign-up sheet is posted on the table in the narthex (Creston) to let the Mission Board know how many will be going and who can drive, as we will carpool from the church. A definite number must be given to Gary Thies about 10 days before the event. Mt. Ayr members may either send a note in the transfer box or email/phone Linda at the church office and she will jot your name on the list and whether you need a ride or not. If you have any questions you can talk with any Mission Board member.
