May 26, 2019 The Sixth Sunday of Easter

Post date: May 29, 2019 2:21:24 PM

For The Sixth Sunday of Easter on May 26, 2019

Acts 16:9-15

Rev. 21:9-14, 21-27

John 16:23-33 (printed below) or John 5:1-9

23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

I Have Overcome the World

25 “I have said these things to you in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech but will tell you plainly about the Father. 26 In that day you will ask in my name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father on your behalf; 27 for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. 28 I came from the Father and have come into the world, and now I am leaving the world and going to the Father.”

29 His disciples said, “Ah, now you are speaking plainly and not using figurative speech! 30 Now we know that you know all things and do not need anyone to question you; this is why we believe that you came from God.” 31 Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe? 32 Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. 33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Life Together

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance. On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand the card to an usher.

Baptism: Today, we rejoice and give thanks for Collins Louise Wardenburg, infant daughter of Dane and Jordan Wardenburg, who will be claimed by Jesus in the waters of Holy Baptism. Collins’ sponsors are Heidi Muller (cousin), Jessica Wardenburg (aunt), and Derek Gadbois (uncle).

Retirement Open House: An open house will be held from 2:00-5:00 TODAY, Sunday, May 26, in Trinity Creston’s fellowship hall hosted by the families of Phil Wardenburg and Candace Peterson in honor of Phil and Candace’s retirement from teaching. You are all invited to attend.

Early risers will not meet during the summer months, beginning with May 28.

Introduction/Review - Lutheran Teachings/Catechesis: Starting Thursday May 30th at 7PM, Pastor Rutz will lead a class for those who would like to learn more about LCMS Lutheran teachings and for those who would like a refresher course on LCMS Lutheran teachings. If you yourself or a friend or family member would like to learn more about the Lord’s Ministry here at Trinity, we invite you to prayerfully consider this opportunity. Pastor Rutz is also more than happy to schedule time to meet privately for this class if you would rather have that option. MISSIONS

For the last month or so the Mission Board has announced that we will be taking a trip to Mission Central, Mapleton, IA on Saturday, July 27th. We are to arrive by 10:45 so we can tour the new Creation Museum. (There are photos of animals/museum on the table in the narthex). There will be lunch served before we hear from Pastor Stephen Oliver, a missionary from Taiwan and who Trinity supports. Some of you shared this trip 2 years ago, where we carpooled and will again. It will be an interesting trip and it's FREE!! Please contact any of the Mission Board members if you have questions.
