For Reformation Sunday on October 25, 2020

For your own personal reading at home this week.

Revelation 14:6-7

Romans 3:16-28

John 8:31-36 or Matthew 11:12-19

The Truth Will Set You Free

31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”

34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave[a] to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Matthew 11:12-19

English Standard Version

12 From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence,[a] and the violent take it by force. 13 For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John, 14 and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come. 15 He who has ears to hear,[b] let him hear. 16 “But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their playmates,17 “‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.”[c]

LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.

He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance. Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.

On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.

If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Attendance via Livestreamed and You Tube Services: During this pandemic period, if you watch the Divine Service online and wish to have your attendance recorded, please call Linda at the church office 782-5095 or email her at

lhadley@trinitycreston.org and let her know the date of the service that you watched.

Private Communion Times: If you would like to take holy communion privately, please call Pastor to set up an appointment. Common cup is also available to families or small groups upon request.

Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.

Change in date for Voters’ Meeting: The church council has changed the date for the Voters’ Assembly Meeting. The new date will be Sunday, November 8, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall, Creston. This change is to ensure the elections for the year 2021 are conducted in accord with the church constitution. The report of the nominating committee is found as an insert in today’s bulletin.

Library: Stop by the church library and bookstore in the fellowship hall to check out the latest offerings. A selection of materials is available at the Mt. Ayr location.

OWLS will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 1:00 p.m. by the bear in McKinley Park, weather permitting. If weather does not allow, it will be canceled. If you have questions, contact Sharon Eklund.

Fall Back: Reminder to set your clocks back one hour before going to bed on Saturday, October 31, as we switch back to standard time.

MISSIONS

Pastor Appreciation: After the service this morning, in Creston, you are all invited to join together in the fellowship hall for cake in honor of Pastor Appreciation Month.

LWML: Our LWML bake/craft sale will be held in the fellowship hall at Trinity (Creston) NEXT SUNDAY, November 1 during the fellowship time, after Divine Service. Proceeds from the sales will be used to support LWML Mission projects.

Message from the District Office: WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR IOWA LUTHERAN ELEMENTARY and SECONDARY SCHOOLS? Direct your state tax dollars to benefit these students through the Iowa Lutheran School Tuition Organization (ILSTO). By donating to ILSTO, students will receive more financial aid to enable them to attend. All donations help whether it’s $500, $1,000 or $10,000 that you would normally pay in state tax. In addition, the benefit to you is a great tax credit of 65% on your Iowa state taxes. For further information, please contact Dewey Torkelson at 712-260-2991.
