For the Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost on September 6, 2020

Ezekiel 33:7-9 Romans 13:1-10 Matthew 18:1-20 (as follows)

1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. 6 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. 7 Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come! 8 If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. 9 And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell. 10 “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven. [11] [a]12 “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? 13 And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. 14 In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish. 15 “If your brother or sister[b] sins,[c] go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’[d] 17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

18 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be[e] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[f] loosed in heaven. 19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.

He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance. Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.

On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.

If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Library: The Mission Board has recently re-organized the church library and bookstore, located in the fellowship hall in Creston. New materials have been added including adult & children’s books, reference materials and DVDs. To check-out materials, simply record the items you are borrowing on the self check-out form. If you would like to purchase something from the bookstore, use a purchase envelope and drop it in the offering plate. From time to time, Pastor Rutz will be reviewing and giving recommendations on good books to read and the Mission Board plans on continuing to add new materials as they become available. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor or Julie Rutz.

Baby Shower: Members of the congregation are invited to a baby shower for Jeff & Heather Kruse TODAY, September 6, at 1:30 p.m., in the Trinity Fellowship Hall. They are registered at babylist.com/baby-kruse-registry Please RSVP to 712-542-7910. Oh! And by the way, God is blessing them with A BOY! (Grandparents are Kevin & Joyce Kruse.)

Early Risers will resume on Tuesday, September 8, at 6:30 am. We will begin to read and discuss the Book of Acts. Please join us for Scripture, coffee and conversation.

Naomi Circle will meet on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will be in McKinley Park, by the bear. In the event of rain we will meet in the Fellowship Hall. Our lesson will be: “Held by His Word in Uncertain Times,” found on page 20 of the Summer Lutheran Women’s Quarterly. Bring your lawn chair and join us as we enjoy the study of God’s Word and Christian fellowship.

Handy Helpers: If you can thread a needle or tie a square knot, you can be a Handy Helper...no need to "quilt". Everyone is welcome to join us Tuesday September 15 in Fellowship Hall, 9am til noon (with coffee break).

Finished quilts are donated to those who are in need of warmth♥️

Greeting Cards: Do you buy greeting cards here at the church? Do you want this service continued? Please check the sheet on the table in the narthex to express your opinion. If you have questions contact Sharon Eklund.

Wedding: Molly Rutz and John Knosp will be married in Nebraska on Sept. 26th. If you would like to contribute to a monetary gift from Trinity Congregation please give to Theola Bullock in Mt. Ayr or Sharon Eklund in Creston (or place envelope in basket on narthex table). If you want to write a check please make payable to Molly Rutz. We will connect through Sunday, Sept. 20, then send gift with Pastor and Julie for Molly and John on their wedding day. Thank you.
