The Ninth Sunday after Pentecost

Announcements: August 7, 2022

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church

For the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost on August 7, 2022

Genesis 15:1-6

Hebrews 11:1-16

Luke 12:22-34 (35-40)

22 And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! 25 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?[a] 26 If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest? 27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,[b] yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28 But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29 And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. 30 For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 Instead, seek his[c] kingdom, and these things will be added to you.

32 “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.35 “Stay dressed for action[d] and keep your lamps burning, 36 and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks. 37 Blessed are those servants[e] whom the master finds awake when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at table, and he will come and serve them. 38 If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them awake, blessed are those servants! 39 But know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he[f] would not have left his house to be broken into. 40 You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we

believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.

He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance. Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.

On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.

If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.

Offerings: For now, the offerings will continue to be gathered in the back of the church and will be brought forward during the offertory.

Children’s Bulletins to go along with today’s Sunday of the Church Year are available in a basket by the back pew (Creston).

Sunday School is not meeting this summer. Prayerfully consider how you might be able to help further Trinity's Christian Education for this fall. We will be looking for teachers for fall and we're always looking for extra hands in all areas of Christian Education.

Thank You: We would like to thank everyone who came out to see us the last week in July when we were back for our visit. It was so wonderful seeing all of our Trinity family again. We really do miss all of you. Thank you also to Julie Lang for setting it up and making it happen. Christian friendship really is a special thing. Thank you also for the many prayers since we've been gone.

Blessings to all of you, Dave and Maggie Dory

Mini-golf Sept. 18 will be the annual mini-golf outing at 3:00. More info will be coming soon.

Food and Fellowship Tonight, Aug. 7 at 6:00 p.m. on the lawn by the playground at Trinity, Creston. Bring lawnchairs, a snack to share, and get to know other members better.

Naomi Circle will not meet in August. They will resume on September 14.

Exciting News! Trinity-Creston has an opportunity to install a chair lift from the narthex level to the hallway below. A donor has offered to contribute matching funds to the money raised by Trinity members. The cost of this chairlift will be approximately $20,000. Trinity presently already has $3,575.00 in funds designated to a chairlift leaving only $6,425.00 left to be raised to complete this much needed project. Please prayerfully consider giving to this chairlift. You can do so by writing chairlift on outside of your envelope and placing it in the collection plate.

With the upstairs restroom project presently being on hold due to the inability to get contractors to bid on the project, if you had made a contribution to the restroom project and would like to redirect a portion of your gift please contact Financial Secretary Kevin Kruse.

Free: We have received a new Christmas tree to be used in the sanctuary and will be disposing of the old one. If anyone is interested in taking the old tree, please contact Cindy Nelson at 515-480-5539 by August 14.

LifeLight Bible Study will begin Monday, September 19, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, September 20 at 1:00 p.m. and continue this pattern every week, EXCEPT November 7 & 8, then resuming on Monday, November 14 and Tuesday, November 15, 2022.

We will study the Old Testament Prophets, Hosea/Joel/Amos. Each of these OT prophets warn the Northern Kingdom of Israel that because they are sinning against God they face calamity and destruction. And yet, each of these prophets remind the people of the promises of God, and His forgiveness of sin.

If you plan to join us, please let Mike or Janette Lang know by Monday, August 22, so we can order materials and get them to you at least a week before we begin. To register, or for information, call Janette at 641-247-9295, or Mike at 642-247-9276.

Rev. Marvin Matzke, former pastor at Trinity from 1949-1954, passed away on July 10 in Springfield, IL at the age of 97. His funeral was held at Christ Lutheran in Normal, IL with burial in El Paso, IL.

Trinity Preschool is currently enrolling for the 2022-23 school year.

Preschool Endowment Fund

By the Grace of God, we are establishing an endowment fund to be a permanent source of support for our preschool. As you know, we started Trinity Preschool over 35 years ago. This has been an important outreach in the Creston community.

To help celebrate 35 years of sharing the Gospel with our preschool families, please consider donating $35.00 per adult and $0.35 per child. These funds will go towards the growth of our preschool endowment fund. To make a donation towards this endowment fund, make your check payable to “Trinity” and be sure to mark the envelope “Preschool Endowment Fund.”

We ask that you consider being a part of this venture. If you have questions contact Bill Magers or Mike Lang. Thank You!
