The Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost

Announcements: August 28, 2022

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church

For the Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost on August 28, 2022

Proverbs 25:2-10 Hebrews 13:1-17

Luke 14:1-14

Healing of a Man on the Sabbath

1 One Sabbath, when he went to dine at the house of a ruler of the Pharisees, they were watching him carefully. 2 And behold, there was a man before him who had dropsy. 3 And Jesus responded to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?” 4 But they remained silent. Then he took him and healed him and sent him away. 5 And he said to them, “Which of you, having a son[a] or an ox that has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull him out?” 6 And they could not reply to these things.

The Parable of the Wedding Feast

7 Now he told a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the places of honor, saying to them, 8 “When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in a place of honor, lest someone more distinguished than you be invited by him, 9 and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this person,’ and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place. 10 But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you. 11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

The Parable of the Great Banquet

12 He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers[b] or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. 13 But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”

LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we

believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.

He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance. Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.

On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.

If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.

Offerings: Offering are gathered in the back of the church and will be brought forward during the offertory.

Children’s Bulletins to go along with today’s Sunday of the Church Year are available in a basket by the back pew (Creston).

Christian Education Information is available in the back of the church (CR) and has been emailed. We have great opportunities for all ages to grow in knowledge of our Lord and Savior.

Christian Care Fund: The last reported balance is $2136.53. If you ever need to fill out a request on behalf of someone in need, blue request forms may be found on the shelf in the narthex. After filling out the form, turn it in to Pastor for the Christian Care Committee to review.

Final Food and Fellowship for the season will be held on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 6:00 p.m. at Trinity, Creston.

Church Pictorial Directory

The Mission Board has started taking photos of Trinity’s members in preparation for putting together a new updated church pictorial directory. We are strongly encouraging everyone to participate so the directory will have current info for all.

Creston– Date for the next Photo Shoot is scheduled for Sunday, September 4, 2022 following the church service in Creston. The pictures will be taken in the fellowship hall. There is also an option of pictures on Saturday Sept. 3, 2022. There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex if you want to request a Saturday time.

Mt. Ayr– Two choices of times: Tuesday, September 6 at 5:30 p.m. (before Bible study) or Sunday, September 11, 2022 starting at 10:00, prior to the church service. Hopefully one of these time slots will work for you.

Should you have questions or concerns please contact any one of the committee by text or phone:

Chairlift Project is a Go!!! Trinity Creston now has adequate funds to proceed with the chairlift project. Contact will be made with the chairlift company to get a date set for installation.

Trinity Preschool is currently enrolling for the 2022-23 school year.

Preschool Endowment Fund

By the Grace of God, we are establishing an endowment fund to be a permanent source of support for our preschool. As you know, we started Trinity Preschool over 35 years ago. This has been an important outreach in the Creston community.

To help celebrate 35 years of sharing the Gospel with our preschool families, please consider donating $35.00 per adult and $0.35 per child. These funds will go towards the growth of our preschool endowment fund. To make a donation towards this endowment fund, make your check payable to “Trinity” and be sure to mark the envelope “Preschool Endowment Fund.”

We ask that you consider being a part of this venture. If you have questions contact Bill Magers or Mike Lang. Thank You!
