The Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Announcements: September 18, 2022

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church

For the Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost on September 18, 2022

Amos 8:4-7 I Timothy 2: 1-15 Luke 16:1-15

1 He also said to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his possessions. 2 And he called him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Turn in the account of your management, for you can no longer be manager.’ 3 And the manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do, since my master is taking the management away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg. 4 I have decided what to do, so that when I am removed from management, people may receive me into their houses.’ 5 So, summoning his master's debtors one by one, he said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ 6 He said, ‘A hundred measures[a] of oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’ 7 Then he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ He said, ‘A hundred measures[b] of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’ 8 The master commended the dishonest manager for his shrewdness. For the sons of this world[c] are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light. 9 And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth,[d] so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal dwellings. 10 “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. 11 If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? 12 And if you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own? 13 No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” 14 The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him. 15 And he said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we

believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.

He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance. Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.

On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.

If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.

Offerings: Offering are gathered in the back of the church and will be brought forward during the offertory.

Children’s Bulletins to go along with today’s Sunday of the Church Year are available in a basket by the back pew (Creston).

Christian Education Information is available in the back of the church (CR) and has been emailed. We have great opportunities for all ages to grow in knowledge of our Lord and Savior.

Out of the Office The office assistant will be out of the office this week.

Pictorial Directory Photos: The Mission Board will be putting together a new church pictorial directory. If you have not had your photo taken yet, come down to the fellowship hall (CR) TODAY after the Divine Service and get your photo taken.

Sunday School Rally Day will be in conjunction with our annual mini-golf outing TODAY, September 18. Everyone is invited to attend. The mini-golf event will begin at 3:00 p.m. at 2572 210th St., Afton, IA. One mile south of Afton on Hwy 169, turn EAST on 210th Street, continue on gravel to 2572 right side of road, approximately 1.5 miles. Trinity’s Board of Education will provide hot dogs, buns, s’mores and water. Everyone is invited to attend. Bring lawn chairs if you are able. Due to this event, there will not be any Food and Fellowship tonight.

Portals of Prayer for Oct.–Dec. are available in the back of the church. These are good daily devotion materials. Used Portals of Prayer may be places in the box below the mailboxes in the narthex (CR). These will be distributed free next summer by the LLL at the Iowa State Fair. There is a big demand for these.

Board meetings on Wed., Sept. 21 at 6:00 p.m. followed by church council meeting at 7:00 p.m. Meet in FH (CR).

LWML Craft/Bake Sale: Be thinking about what you can make for the LWML Craft/Bake Sale coming up on Sunday, October 9 in Creston. The sale will be following Divine Service. The proceeds will be given to Mites for LWML mission projects, towards the purchase of a new round table for the fellowship hall, and for future kitchen updates, as funds allow.

F.L.O.C.K. Kids kindergarten through 4th grade are invited to attend F.L.O.C.K. (Fellowship and Love Offered to Christ’s Kids) on the second Wednesday of each month this year. The first meeting will be October 12th at 5pm. I’d love to see your kids then!

Congregation members, we’d like to provide a meal to the kids during this time. If a few people could work together to fix a meal or donate money for pizza, that would be great! We’re looking at less than 10 kids. A sign-up sheet is in the narthex. Thanks for your help as we continue to offer this fellowship time to Christ’s kids. If any questions, please contact Julie Lang.

Trinity Preschool is currently enrolling for the 2022-23 school year. There are still a few openings for students.

Preschool Endowment Fund

By the Grace of God, we are establishing an endowment fund to be a permanent source of support for our preschool. As you know, we started Trinity Preschool over 35 years ago. This has been an important outreach in the Creston community.

To help celebrate 35 years of sharing the Gospel with our preschool families, please consider donating $35.00 per adult and $0.35 per child. These funds will go towards the growth of our preschool endowment fund. To make a donation towards this endowment fund, make your check payable to “Trinity” and be sure to mark the envelope “Preschool Endowment Fund.”

We ask that you consider being a part of this venture. If you have questions contact Bill Magers or Mike Lang. Thank You!
