For The Second Sunday after Christmas on Jan. 2, 2022
For your own personal reading at home this week.
I Kings 3:4-15 Ephesians 1:3-14
40 And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him.
The Boy Jesus in the Temple
41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom. 43 And when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, 44 but supposing him to be in the group they went a day's journey, but then they began to search for him among their relatives and acquaintances, 45 and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, searching for him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 And when his parents[a] saw him, they were astonished. And his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.” 49 And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?”[b] 50 And they did not understand the saying that he spoke to them. 51 And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And his mother treasured up all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature[c] and in favor with God and man.

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.
He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.
Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance. Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.
On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.
If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.
Attendance via Livestreamed and You Tube Services: During this pandemic period, if you watch the Divine Service online and wish to have your attendance recorded, please call Linda at the church office 782-5095 or email her at
email@example.com and let her know the date of the service that you watched.
Private Communion Times: If you would like to take holy communion privately, please call Pastor to set up an appointment.
Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.
Children’s Bulletins that go along with today’s Sunday of the Church Year are available in a basket by the back pew (Creston).

UPDATE ON THE UPSTAIRS BATHROOM PROJECT
On December 17 the committee met with the architects and approved the final plans.
On January 31, 2022 the plans will be released to contractors for bid proposals.
On February 16, 2022 there will be a pre-bid meeting with contractors.
On March 10, 2022 the bids will be opened for review by the architect and the committee.
The committee requests a Voter’s Assembly meeting on Sunday, March 13, 2022 to review bids and to decide how to proceed. No construction contracts will be executed without prior Voter’s Assembly approval.
During the planning with the architect for the Upstairs Bathroom Project, the committee considered some enhancements to the original project concept. The addition to the building will require excavation for footings and groundwater control. Therefore modifications to the original concept have been included in the bid specifications.
1. Additional excavation for a storage and utility closet beneath the proposed bathroom addition has been added to the project specifications. This will allow us to improve the collection and removal of rainwater and ground water, both of which continue to be a problem in our basement.
2. Additional work has been proposed to collect and remove rainwater from the roof of the church building. This also continues to be a problem. The committee and the architect agree this will reduce the continuing problem of water infiltration into our basement.
Offering Envelopes for 2022: Some are left to be picked up from the table in the narthex (CR). If you don’t find one with your name, speak to Kevin Kruse, the financial secretary.
Reminder: Check your church mailbox on the east wall in the narthex (CR).
Preschool Endowment Fund
By the Grace of God, we are establishing an endowment fund to be a permanent source of support for our preschool. As you know, we started Trinity Preschool over 35 years ago. This has been an important outreach in the Creston community.
To help celebrate 35 years of sharing the Gospel with our preschool families, please consider donating $35.00 per adult and $0.35 per child. These funds will go towards the growth of our preschool endowment fund. To make a donation towards this endowment fund, make your check payable to “Trinity” and be sure to mark the envelope “Preschool Endowment Fund.”
We ask that you consider being a part of this venture. If you have questions contact Bill Magers or Mike Lang. Thank You!
