For The Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany on Jan. 30, 2022

Jeremiah 1:4-10 (17-19) I Corinthians 12:31b-13:13

Luke 4:31-44

31And he went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And he was teaching them on the Sabbath, 32 and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word possessed authority. 33 And in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice, 34 “Ha![a] What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.” 35 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm. 36 And they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!” 37 And reports about him went out into every place in the surrounding region. 38 And he arose and left the synagogue and entered Simon's house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and they appealed to him on her behalf. 39 And he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she rose and began to serve them.40 Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them. 41 And demons also came out of many, crying, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ. 42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desolate place. And the people sought him and came to him, and would have kept him from leaving them, 43 but he said to them, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose.” 44 And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we

believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.

He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance. Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.

On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.

If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Attendance via Livestreamed and You Tube Services: During this pandemic period, if you watch the Divine Service online and wish to have your attendance recorded, please call Linda at the church office 782-5095 or email her at

lhadley@trinitycreston.org and let her know the date of the service that you watched.

Private Communion Times: If you would like to take holy communion privately, please call Pastor to set up an appointment.

Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.

Offerings: For now, the offerings will continue to be gathered in the back of the church and will be brought forward during the offertory.

Children’s Bulletins that go along with today’s Sunday of the Church Year are available in a basket by the back pew (Creston).

Camp Okoboji will be giving six scholarships for Cub/Jr. High/Youth Weeks. Children may apply for the scholarships by completing an application and returning it to camp by April 18. Application forms are available in the narthex.

Thank You to Rev. Don Pobanz, from Atlantic, for being our guest pastor this morning and for sharing God’s Word with us.

Bible Study in Mt. Ayr will not meet on Tues., Feb. 1.

Christian Education Information is available in the back of the church (CR) and will be emailed. We have great opportunities for all ages to grow in knowledge of our Lord and Savior.

Rachel Circle will meet in the Fellowship Hall (CR) on Tuesday, February 1, at 6:30 p.m.

Valentine Dinner The Trinity Youth Group will host their annual Valentine Dinner Fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 20 at 11:00 a.m. Meals will be available for dine in, carry out and delivery and are $15. Money raised will help fund youth group activities and trips. The menu will include pork loin, cheesy potatoes, green beans, dinner roll, cheesecake and a beverage. A sign-up sheet is located in the narthex so the youth know how many meals to plan for. Please sign up by Sunday, February 13.

Lutheran Witness Subscription Renewal Time:

If you do not currently subscribe to the Lutheran Witness magazine but would like to begin a subscription, there’s a sign up sheet on the table in the narthex in Creston. Members in Mt. Ayr may email names and addresses to Linda at lhadley@trinitycreston.org by Feb. 13. Pay for the subscription using the offering envelope for Lutheran Witness (found in the front of your offering envelope box) and place it in the offering plate some Sunday. The cost is $22.68.

LifeLight Bible Study will begin Monday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, March 8 at 1:00 p.m. and continue this pattern for nine weeks, ending on May3, 2022. We will study the always interesting “Book of Job.” Job is highly poetic, filled with bold imagery and striking figures of speech. In Job we find the amazing statement of faith; Job 19:25: “For I know that my Redeemer lives.” Job’s testimony in the midst of calamity is foundational.

If you plan to join us, please let Janette or Mike know by February 14 so that we can order materials and get them to you at least a week before we begin. For information contact Janette or Mike Lang (641-782-7922).

Ark Encounter and Creation Museum Trip Update:

Preschool Endowment Fund

By the Grace of God, we are establishing an endowment fund to be a permanent source of support for our preschool. As you know, we started Trinity Preschool over 35 years ago. This has been an important outreach in the Creston community.

To help celebrate 35 years of sharing the Gospel with our preschool families, please consider donating $35.00 per adult and $0.35 per child. These funds will go towards the growth of our preschool endowment fund. To make a donation towards this endowment fund, make your check payable to “Trinity” and be sure to mark the envelope “Preschool Endowment Fund.”

We ask that you consider being a part of this venture. If you have questions contact Bill Magers or Mike Lang. Thank You!

Diaper Drive

The LC Clinic will be hosting the annual Diaper Drive from January 23, 2022-February 28, 2022. If you did not receive an insert about this project yet there are extras available on the table in the narthex. If you would like to help with this project and if it is more convenient for you, feel free to bring diapers to the church and place them in the basket below the mailboxes. Someone will see that they get delivered to the LC Clinic at the end of the drive. Your support of the LC Clinic is a blessing to others.
