For The Second Sunday in Lent on February 28, 2021

Genesis 17:1-7; 15-16 Romans 5:1-11

Mark 8:27-38

27 And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” 28 And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” 29 And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” 30 And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him.

31 And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And he said this plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

34 And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever would save his life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. 36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? 37 For what can a man give in return for his soul? 38 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.

He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance. Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.

On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.

If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Attendance via Livestreamed and You Tube Services: During this pandemic period, if you watch the Divine Service online and wish to have your attendance recorded, please call Linda at the church office 782-5095 or email her at

lhadley@trinitycreston.org and let her know the date of the service that you watched.

Private Communion Times: If you would like to take holy communion privately, please call Pastor to set up an appointment. Common cup is also available to families or small groups upon request.

Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.

Holy Communion in Creston: When it is time for Holy Communion, those who prefer individual cups will be ushered to commune first. After they are finished, those who prefer common cup will come up, still observing the spacing of social distancing.

Elders Meeting: Thursday, March 4 at 6:00 p.m. Note this schedule change due to Lenten schedule.

Sunday School will resume on Sunday, March 7 following the Divine Service.

THE UPSTAIRS BATHROOM (Creston) is close to reality!

This exciting project is now in the fund-raising phase. The architect concept drawing and pledge sheet is available from the ushers.

The new bathroom will be fully handicap accessible and compliant. Located just to the right of the mailboxes in the Narthex, outside of the existing building it will not reduce the size of the Narthex.

The Voter’s ask for your support of this project.

If you agree, please use the “Pledge Sheet” to show your support. All pledges will be held confidential

If sufficient support is shown by April 1, 2021 the Voter’s will proceed with the construction this summer. A pledge “thermometer” showing the amount pledged so far is posted in the narthex.

THANK YOU to those who attended our Valentine’s Day Dinner, took carry out/delivery, or gave donations! It was greatly appreciated by all youth and the funds will go towards our National Youth Gathering Trip in Houston, Texas in Summer 2022!

Thank you from the Trinity Lutheran Church Youth Group

THANK YOU to everyone who had kind words and Facebook messages following the death of Darwin’s mom. Also, thank you for cards and memorials sent. Your thoughtfulness was appreciated.
