                                                     The Fifth Sunday of Easter

Announcements:  May 7, 2023

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church

The Fifth Sunday of Easter on May 7, 2023

Acts 6:1-9; 7:2a, 51-60           I Peter 2:2-10

John 14:1-14    Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life

14 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God;[a] believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?[b] 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.”[c] 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also.[d] From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

8 Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.

12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me[e] anything in my name, I will do it.

 LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS:  We are so glad you joined us today.  We do collect offerings during our  worship services.  While we

believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest.  If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.

He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance.  Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.

On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.

If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.

Offerings: Offering are gathered in the back of the church and will be brought forward during the offertory.

Children’s Bulletins to go along with today’s Sunday of the Church Year are available in a basket by the back pew (Creston).

MATURA Outreach (Food Pantry) is in need of hygiene type items. Shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, etc. Food items are always needed but if we could focus on those items for a few months, that could be extremely helpful. Thanks for the continued support to this community outreach.   Donated items may be placed in the plastic tub, found next to the water cooler,  in the corner of the narthex.  If you have any questions, please speak to Julie Lang.

Fish Fry/Potluck on Sun., June 4  to kick off the summer’s Food & Fellowship Nights.   Watch for more info in coming weeks.

VBS will be June 21-22-23 in Creston from 6-8 p.m.  Please prayerfully consider how you may be able to help with this mission.   A sign up sheet will be available soon.  An outdoor service will be held in Creston on Sun. June 25.

Guest Speaker/Potluck Brunch TODAY, May 7:  We will have a special guest this morning. Her name is Letty Gali. She started an afterschool program for low-income children in an area controlled by gangs in Placentia, California 18 years ago. With God’s guidance and blessings and help from the youth in her church, the gangs no longer are in that area. Now instead of deciding which gang they will join; the kids are now looking to graduate from high school and some are going on to college.

The organization’s name is LOT318. It stands for “Loving Others in Truth” based on 1 John 3:18. Letty was born in Cuba in 1964 when Fidel Castro was in power. He allowed some families to come to the US in 1968, so Letty at the age of 3 came to the New York City area (Brooklyn) with her parents and siblings. She graduated from college and was an accountant by trade in NY. The Lord called her to California, the Orange County area to start this ministry 18 years ago.

During coffee time, after the worship service, we will have a five minute YouTube video about LOT318 and then Letty will tell us more about that ministry. After that we will have a potluck brunch.

Teacher Appreciation Week:  May 8-12 We appreciate our teaching staff at Trinity Preschool.  Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Stull do a wonderful job of teaching God’s little children.  Mrs. Martin will be retiring this year. Due to her retirement, we have an opening for a teacher for the 4 year old SWVP program.  This person must have State of Iowa Early Childhood Educator licensure.  If a teacher is not found with that degree we will stil have a class for 4 year olds but will not be able to offer the state program.

Naomi Circle will meet this Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at 1:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall. We will study the lesson: “Alive in God’s World”  beginning on page 18 in the Spring 2023 Quarterly.

Please join us as we continue to study God’s Word and for Christian Fellowship.

Rachel Circle will meet on Wednesday, May 10, at 6:30 p.m., at Candace Peterson’s house.

Reception for Graduates:   A reception will be held in Creston following the Divine Service on May 21 for this year’s Creston & East Union grads.  They are Elizabeth Hadley, Kenna Tomas, Haylee Brown & Holden Hanson.   Zoey Larsen will also be graduating from Mt. Ayr High School.

                                        It’s A Girl!

Join us for a baby shower honoring Molly Knosp (Pastor and Julie’s daughter) on Saturday, May 27 at 2:00 p.m. in Trinity’s Fellowship Hall in Creston.  All women and young ladies of the congregation are welcome. The baby is due in September.  Molly is registered at Target and on Amazon. Bring a package of diapers and be entered in a drawing for a special prize!
