The Day of Pentecost

Announcements: May 19, 2024

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church

The Day of Pentecost on May 19,  2024

Ezekiel 37:1-14      Acts 2:1-21

John 15:26-27; 16:4b-15

26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. 27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.

4 But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told them to you.“I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. 5 But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

 LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS:  We are so glad you joined us today.  We do collect offerings during our  worship services.  While we

believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest.  If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.

He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance.  Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.

On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.

If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.

Children’s Bulletins to go along with today’s Sunday of the Church Year are available in a basket by the back pew (CR).

New Camera System:  A new camera system has been purchased, installed and was tried out last Sunday for the first time. Some things are still being fine tuned with operating it and we thank you for your patience during this transition.   If you made a pledge to this project and haven’t turned in the pledge yet, you are asked to place your pledge in the offering plate soon and mark the envelope that it’s for the camera.   Thank you for helping to provide livestreamed services for those who are not able to attend in person services.  Services will also be posted on the church website as recorded services later in the day.

FOR SALE: Fellowship hall tables, 30” x 96” tables.

Only the tables found on the storage cart. $25 each.

Questions?  Talk to Rick Hadley, chair of trustees.

Bulletins:  In order to save on paper and printing expenses, the elders have approved returning to a shorter bulletin format and to using the hymnals more.   You may use today’s bulletin as a bookmark with the order of worship portion extended for reference through the service.  The introit, gradual and readings are printed in the bulletin so keep it handy for those portions of the service.

Food and Fellowship will be held tonight at 6:00 p.m. in Creston.   Bring lawn chairs, a snack to share and your own beverages.  Come and join us around the firepit.   It will continue to meet on the first and third Sunday evenings.  If the weather is bad, we’ll will move inside to the fellowship hall.   The plan is to meet on 1st and 3rd Sundays. June 3 will feature a fish fry.

OWLS will meet in Creston’s fellowship hall at noon on Wednesday, May 22.  Bring a sack lunch.

Calling all interested VBS helpers!! Come help us Celebrate Our Savior! Whether you're leading a session, helping with games, crafts, decorations, or kitchen duty; please plan to attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, May 29th at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall. We'll discuss the registration, schedule, session locations, decorations and all other VBS details. We'd love to have everyone who is interested in helping in any way attend that night. Our VBS dates are June 18-21 and we'll meet in the morning from 9-11:30 this year. Your participation would be so appreciated! If you have any questions, please see Julie Lang or Becky Hagen.

LWML Convention Alexis Swanson will be attending LWML Convention as a Young Women’s Rep.  If you would like to make a donation for the Mission Walk at Convention please give your donation to Alexis before June 13th. Checks should be payable to “LWML IWD” and can also be mailed to Alexis at 1723 110th St., Creston.

Camp Okoboji Auxiliary Quilt Auction will be June 1.  Go to www.campokoboji.org and click on the quilt pin to see photos and descriptions of the quilts for the 2024 auction.  If you cannot attend the auction but wish to purchase a quilt, you can call the camp office and leave a bid for a quilt with one of the office personnel.

Building Healthy Families: Bringing young kids to worship can be a challenge for parents and grandparents, but what joy is found there, too! Enter “pew buddies”! These are members of the church family who support and encourage children (littles on up!) and their parents by engaging them in the worship service and providing a helping hand, all with the intent of pointing them to Jesus and his love and grace. This can mean a variety of things including, but not limited to, holding/soothing fussy babies, welcoming exuberant toddlers into the Lord’s house, sharing gentle, compassionate smiles with worn out moms and dads, inviting kids to “help” you follow along with the service (from the hymnal, bulletin or screen), and generally following the parents’ lead in guiding their little ones. The goal is involvement over distraction! Look around and see how you might come alongside your fellow little worshipers this week! Lutheran Family Service www.LutheranFamilyService.org
