The Third Sunday after Pentecost

Announcements: June 26, 2022

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church

For the Third Sunday after Pentecost on June 26, 2022

I Kings 19:9b-21

Galatians 5:1, 13-25

Luke 9:51-62

A Samaritan Village Rejects Jesus

51 When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. 52 And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. 53 But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. 54 And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”[a] 55 But he turned and rebuked them.[b] 56 And they went on to another village.

The Cost of Following Jesus

57 As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 59 To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60 And Jesus[c] said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61 Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” 62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we

believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.

He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance. Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.

On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.

If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.

Offerings: For now, the offerings will continue to be gathered in the back of the church and will be brought forward during the offertory.

Children’s Bulletins to go along with today’s Sunday of the Church Year are available in a basket by the back pew (Creston).

Christian Education Information is available in the back of the church (CR) and has been emailed. We have great opportunities for all ages to grow in knowledge of our Lord and Savior.

Bulletin Board: If we don’t have a current photo of you posted on the bulletin board in the fellowship hall please email one to lhadley @trinitycreston.org or drop a photo off at the church office to be copied and returned to you.

Organists: Trinity is looking for additional people to assist in playing organ or keyboard for services. If you are interested or know of someone speak to Phil Wardenburg or phone him at 641-202-1611.

Potluck Brunch: After this morning’s service, all are invited to stay for a potluck brunch in the fellowship hall.

Sunday School will not meet this summer. Prayerfully consider how you might be able to help further Trinity's Christian Education for this fall. We will be looking for teachers for fall and we're always looking for extra hands in all areas of Christian Education.

Ordination/Installation: Aaron Wendorff will be ordained and installed as pastor of Immanuel in Osceola and Our Savior in Leon on Saturday, July 2 at 4:30 p.m. The service will be held at Immanuel, Osceola, 101 E. View Pl. There will be a dinner following the service. All are invited to attend.

The following thank you was received in the mail:

Dear Trinity Lutheran Church,

Thank you for participating in our annual Diaper Drive. Your gift of diapers helps parents and babies we serve. We are grateful for your generous support!

For His Glory,

LC Clinic Family

Christian Care Fund: The current balance is $1971.02. If you ever need to fill our a request on behalf of someone in need, blue request forms may be found on the shelf in the narthex. Then turn them in to Pastor Rutz for the committee to review.

Christian Library Resources: Trinity has a library with a number of Christian books and current topic booklets for you to check out. The library is located in the fellowship hall and there are also some Biblical Response booklets available on the shelves in the narthex. Lots of choices for good summer reading!

New Portals of Prayer for July-Sept. were passed out last Sunday. If you did not receive one yet there are more available in the back of the church.

Used Portals of Prayer may be places in the box below the mailboxes in the narthex (CR). These will be distributed free this summer by the LLL at the Iowa State Fair. There is a big demand for these.

Trinity Preschool is currently enrolling for the 2022-23 school year.

Preschool Endowment Fund

By the Grace of God, we are establishing an endowment fund to be a permanent source of support for our preschool. As you know, we started Trinity Preschool over 35 years ago. This has been an important outreach in the Creston community.

To help celebrate 35 years of sharing the Gospel with our preschool families, please consider donating $35.00 per adult and $0.35 per child. These funds will go towards the growth of our preschool endowment fund. To make a donation towards this endowment fund, make your check payable to “Trinity” and be sure to mark the envelope “Preschool Endowment Fund.”

We ask that you consider being a part of this venture. If you have questions contact Bill Magers or Mike Lang. Thank You!
