The Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost
Announcements: August 18, 2024
Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church
The Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost on August 18, 2024
Proverbs 9:1-10 or Joshua 24:1-2a, 14-18
Ephesians 5:6-21
John 6:51-69
51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread[a] the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” 59 Jesus[b] said these things in the synagogue, as he taught at Capernaum. The Words of Eternal Life
60 When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” 61 But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offense at this? 62 Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64 But there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.) 65 And he said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.”
66 After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. 67 So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, 69 and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”

LIFE TOGETHER
VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we
believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.
He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.
Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance. Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.
On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.
If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.
Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.
Children in the Divine Service Sheets are available from the basket in the back of the church. These are different than the former children’s bulletins and produced by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Parents are encouraged to read these to/with their children. Each week will have a short explanation of a different part of the church service or about something found in the church. They another way to aid parents in teaching their children.
Needed: Sunday School is not in session this summer. Two teachers will be needed for this fall when classes begin again. Even if you would be able to take a month at a time and alternate with another teacher, that would be an option. If you are able to volunteer speak with a member of the board of education for more details. Members are Becky Hagen, Anita Wardenburg, Julie Lang and Candace Peterson.
Food and Fellowship will be held tonight beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Creston. Bring lawn chairs, a snack to share and come gather around the fire pit.
Council Meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Wed., Aug. 21
Voter’s Meeting: Next Sunday, August 25 at 1:00 p.m. in Creston’s fellowship hall.
Rachel and Naomi Circles will resume in September.
Calling all Bible students!! LifeLight Resumes, September 16, 2024
It is time to once again gather around God’s Word as we study the Book of “Revelation” to St John, the Apostle. LifeLight is an in-depth study, with a gentle touch, suitable for all ages, high school and up. It is based on God’s Word and the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod understanding of this book, as taught in our seminaries and schools.. There is some homework that will be helpful, but not required. Please join us as we listen to God speak to us through His called Apostle, John. Mike Lang will lead this study.
LifeLight Bible Study of the Book of Revelation will begin Monday, September 16, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, September 17 at 1:00 p.m. The same material will be presented on both Monday and Tuesday each week. There are nine lessons, so we will meet nine weeks total. We plan to be finished before Thanksgiving. You may attend either class or come to a different one each week. It is not required that you attend all the classes.
If you think you can join us, please let Mike or Janette Lang know by Tuesday, September 3, 2024, so we can order materials and get them to you at least a week before we begin. To register, or for further information, please call us at 641-782-7922.
Building Healthy Families: Parents, grandparents and pew buddies -- Have you ever heard a young child sing? Are they on key, in tune, or even singing the right words? Maybe not, but boy, oh, boy are they exuberant! Encouraging little ones to sing throughout the worship service is a wonderful way to involve them and imprint God’s Word and the teachings of our faith on their hearts. Focus on regularly occurring songs in the worship service and common hymns or songs with refrains. Consider selecting a song for the month (at church or home; or even better, both!) and take it a verse per week. What a joy it is for the whole church family to sing together, making a joyful noise to the Lord! Lutheran Family Service www.LutheranFamilyService.org
