The Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Announcements: August 25, 2024

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church

The Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost on August 25,  2024

Isaiah 9:11-19

Ephesians 5:22-33

Mark 7:1-13 Traditions and Commandments

7 Now when the Pharisees gathered to him, with some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem, 2 they saw that some of his disciples ate with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed. 3 (For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands properly,[a] holding to the tradition of the elders, 4 and when they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash.[b] And there are many other traditions that they observe, such as the washing of cups and pots and copper vessels and dining couches.[c]) 5 And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?” 6 And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written,  “‘This people honors me with their lips,
    but their heart is far from me;
7 in vain do they worship me,
teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ 8 You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.”

9 And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition! 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ 11 But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”’ (that is, given to God)[d]12 then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, 13 thus making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.”

 LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS:  We are so glad you joined us today.  We do collect offerings during our  worship services.  While we

believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest.  If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.

He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance.  Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.

On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.

If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.

Children in the Divine Service Sheets are available from the basket in the back of the church.   These are different than the former children’s bulletins and produced by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Parents are encouraged to read these to/with their children.  Each week will have a short explanation of a different part of the church service or about something found in the church.  They another way to aid parents in teaching their children.

Calling all Bible students!!   LifeLight Resumes September 16, 2024

It is time to once again gather around God’s Word as we study the Book of “Revelation” to St John, the Apostle. LifeLight is an in-depth study, with a gentle touch, suitable for all ages, high school and up. It is based on God’s Word and the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod understanding of this book, as taught in our seminaries and schools.. There is some homework that will be helpful, but not required. Please join us as we listen to God speak to us through His called Apostle, John.   Mike Lang will lead this study.

LifeLight Bible Study of the Book of Revelation will begin Monday, September 16, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, September 17 at 1:00 p.m. The same material will be presented on both Monday and Tuesday each week. There are nine lessons, so we will meet nine weeks total.  We plan to be finished before Thanksgiving. You may attend either class or come to a different one each week. It is not required that you attend all the classes.

If you think you can join us, please let Mike or Janette Lang know by Tuesday, September 3, 2024, so we can order materials and get them to you at least a week before we begin.  To register, or for further information, please call us at 641-782-7922.
