For The Third Sunday after the Epiphany on Jan. 26, 2020

Isaiah 9:1-4 I Corinthians 1:10-18

Matthew 4:12-25

12 Now when he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee. 13 And leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, 14 so that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: 15 “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,

the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles— 16 the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.”

17 From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Jesus Calls the First Disciples

18 While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 19 And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him. 21 And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

Jesus Ministers to Great Crowds

23 And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. 24 So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them. 25 And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.

Life Together

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance. On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand the card to an usher.

If you have moved or have a different phone number, or email address please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

The quarterly voters meeting will be held TODAY Sunday, January 26 at 1:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall in Creston.

National Lutheran Schools Week begins today. We thank the Trinity Preschool students and their teachers, Mrs. Brown, and Miss Chris for sharing their musical gifts with us this morning. We are happy to have the families of the preschoolers joining us for this morning’s service. If you are looking for a church home and would like to learn more about the Lutheran Church and our congregation, please feel free to contact Pastor Rutz and he will be happy to schedule a time to speak with you.

Lutheran Witness Subscriptions: If you would like to start a new subscription to the Lutheran Witness magazine, the cost is $22.68 which will get you the magazine plus the Iowa District West insert. If you would like to begin a new subscription, please sign up on the sheet found on the table in Creston. For those down in Mt. Ayr, please email Linda at lhadley@trinitycreston.org by February 9 and tell her you would like to start a subscription. To pay, there is an envelope to use in your offering box. Just put it in the offering plate some Sunday. For those of you who are renewing a current subscription, please return the Yes/No slip that was placed in your mailbox (Creston members) to Linda or email her (Mt. Ayr members) by Feb. 9. She has to mail a subscription list of names/addresses to CPH in St. Louis. Thank you.

Valentine’s Dinner: Trinity Youth Group will be hosting the annual Valentine’s Dinner on Saturday, February 15 at 6:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall in Creston. The menu will be: lasagna, salad, breadsticks, dessert, and beverage and the cost is $15.00 per person. There is a sign up sheet on the table in Creston and Mt. Ayr members who wish to attend can email the church office at:

lhadley@trinitycreston.org and your name will be added to the list. The deadline to sign up is Sunday, February 9 to allow for meal preparation. Proceeds will help fund various youth activities, including attendance at youth gatherings. If you have any questions speak to Jen Foglesong or Pastor Rutz.

LifeLight Bible Study will begin Monday, February 10 at 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, February 11 at 1:00 p.m. We will study the book of “Luke, Part 1”. Luke proclaims that he has carefully recorded the events of this inspired book as he has learned from “eyewitnesses” to the events. Dr. Martin Luther wrote this about the Gospels: “…The gospel, then, is nothing but the preaching about Christ, Son of God and of David, true God and man, who by his death and resurrection has overcome for us the sin, death and hell of all men who believe in him.” Please join us as we study God’s Word. If you have questions contact Mike or Janette Lang.

MISSIONS

LC Clinic Diaper Drive: Last week there was an insert in your bulletin telling about the annual diaper drive to benefit the LC Clinic. If you did not receive an insert some extras are on the table. Feel free to pick one up. If you are able to provide for this project you may drop the diapers off at the clinic during the hours listed on the insert or you may drop them off at the church. There is a basket on the floor by the table in the narthex where they may be placed before delivery to the clinic.
