For The Fourth Sunday after Pentecost on July 7, 2019

Isaiah 66:10-14 Galatians 6:1-10, 14-18 Luke 10:1-20 (printed below)

1After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. 2 And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. 3 Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. 4 Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road. 5 Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’ 6 And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you. 7 And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. 8 Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you. 9 Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10 But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’ 12 I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town. 13 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 But it will be more bearable in the judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. 15 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades.

16 “The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”17 The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” 18 And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. 20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance. On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand the card to an usher.

National Youth Gathering: This week Haylee Brown, Kate Foglesong, Elizabeth Hadley, Lauren Hadley, Jacob Rutz, Jeremy Rutz, and Logan Shady will be attending the National Youth Gathering in Minneapolis. Pastor Rutz, Jen Foglesong, and Tammy Burgmaier will be their chaperones. We pray that God will grant them a safe trip and that they will grow in their faith as they hear God’s Word along with many other youth and chaperones from all over the United States.

In case of an emergency and you are in need of pastoral care while Pastor is with the youth at the National Youth Gathering, contact Pastor Keith Schweitzer (pastor at Immanuel Lutheran in Greenfield). Pastor Schweitzer’s cell phone number is 641-745-5143. Immanuel’s phone number is 641-743-2116.

Camp Okoboji offers many youth camps starting in April thru the first of August. If any of our youth are interested, please go to the Camp Okoboji website and check them out. Trinity has scholarship money and will pay up to half of the fee depending on how many apply for funds. Turn in your receipt in August and we will reimburse you. MISSIONS

The large LWML Mite Box will be sitting at the back of the church during the month of July. The Lutheran Women in Mission would like to thank everyone for your support to our organization.

Used Portals of Prayer can be placed in the box located below the mailboxes in the Narthex. These will be distributed free next summer by the LLL at the Iowa State Fair. There is a big demand for these. Thank you.

Next Sunday, July 14, is the last Sunday that members can sign up to go on a trip to Mission Central to hear Pastor Stephen Oliver speak of his missionary work in Taiwan. After that we have to turn in a number coming, so they know how many to serve. We will carpool from the church leaving about 8:00 am on Saturday, July 27. We are to arrive by 10:45 and will start with a tour of the Creation Museum. Then we have lunch and finally at 1:00 pm listen to Pastor Oliver and Pastor Hanson. We should get back to Creston around 4:00-5:00 pm. Please list how many are going and if you can drive. There is no charge for this trip. Please ask any Mission Board member if you have questions.
