November 10, 2019 The Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost

For The Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost on Nov. 10,  2019

Exodus 3:1-15

2 Thessalonians 2:1-8,13-17

Luke 20:27-40

Sadducees Ask About the Resurrection

27 There came to him some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection, 28 and they asked him a question, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies, having a wife but no children, the man must take the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. 29 Now there were seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died without children. 30 And the second 31 and the third took her, and likewise all seven left no children and died. 32 Afterward the woman also died. 33 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For the seven had her as wife.”

34 And Jesus said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, 35 but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, 36 for they cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. 37 But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. 38 Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for all live to him.” 39 Then some of the scribes answered, “Teacher, you have spoken well.” 40 For they no longer dared to ask him any question.

 Life Together

VISITORS:  We are so glad you joined us today.  We do collect offerings during our  worship services.  While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest.  If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.  He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Attendance Cards:  Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance.   On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.   Hand the card to an usher.

If  you have moved or have a different phone number

or email address please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Recognition of Veterans During Fellowship Time:   This morning, during the fellowship time in Creston, refreshments will be served in honor of our veterans.   Everyone is invited to join us in the fellowship hall right after the service.

Thank you:  We thank the member of our congregation who made the beautiful quilts that will be presented to three of our veterans this morning.

Naomi Circle will meet this Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for Bible Study and fellowship.  Our topic will be I Am Trusting Thee, Lord Jesus.  This study is found on page 20 of the Fall 2019 Quarterly.  Please join us for Bible study and fellowship.

Bible Study:  “Sinners and Saints” Join us as we kick off this new Bible study on Sunday November 17th at 8am in Creston and Tuesday December 3rd at 6:30pm in Mount Ayr!  This study will give you insight into how you are both and ultimately, how you can come to a deeper understanding of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ our Lord.  For questions, contact Pastor Rutz. 782-5095 or 712-621-5971

Correction:   On the yellow November calendars, the time for the November 20 council meeting should be 6:00, not 6:30.   Please note this correction on your calendar at home.    Boards  still meet at 5:30 pm.

ALTAR GUILD cleaning and polishing the Altar Ware and furnishings will be Saturday, November 23 at 9:00 a.m.  Supplies will be provided.  This important task usually takes 2 hours.  We thank you for your help.

Thanksgiving Eve Service:  The Thanksgiving Eve Service will be held at 7:00 p.m.  on Wednesday, November 27 in Creston.   Holy Communion will be part of the service.   All offerings from that night will go towards the Christian Care Fund.  That fund is used to help people in need in our communities.

Christian Care Fund:  Recently, we have had the privilege to help several families in need.   At this time, our funds are exhausted.   Our Thanksgiving Eve Service offerings will all go towards this fund.  Donations are also accepted at any time.  Designate those offerings for the Christian Care Fund.

MISSIONS

Food Gathering:  Next Sunday is the third Sunday of the month and that is the week when we gather non-perishable food items and/or toiletry items.  There is a box in the narthex in Creston, on the floor, at the end of the table, where items may be placed.   Those items will be taken to the food pantry at Matura.    If it is easier for you to drop off items a different week, feel free to do so at any time.
