For the Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost on October 11, 2020

Isaiah 25:6-9 Philippians 4:4-13

Matthew 22:1-14

The Parable of the Wedding Feast

1And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, 2 “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son, 3 and sent his servants[a] to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come. 4 Again he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.”’ 5 But they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, 6 while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. 7 The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. 8 Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy. 9 Go therefore to the main roads and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.’ 10 And those servants went out into the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good. So the wedding hall was filled with guests. 11 “But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment. 12 And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ 14 For many are called, but few are chosen.”

LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.

He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance. Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.

On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.

If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Attendance via Livestreamed and You Tube Services: During this pandemic period, if you watch the Divine Service online and wish to have your attendance recorded, please call Linda at the church office 782-5095 or email her at

lhadley@trinitycreston.org and let her know the date of the service that you watched.

Private Communion Times: If you would like to take holy communion privately, please call Pastor to set up an appointment. Common cup is also available to families or small groups upon request.

Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.

Youth Hayride and Bonfire: Trinity Youth are having a hayride and bonfire TODAY, Sunday, October 11th, at 4:00 p.m. at the Karl & Candace Peterson home, 2328 Beechwood (paved road south of 34 that leads to Kent). Feel free to bring hot dogs, snacks, and stuff for smores. You can go directly to the Petersons’ or meet at church for a ride at 3:30 p.m. Feel free to bring a friend or two!

Naomi Circle will meet in the Fellowship Hall on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 1:30 p.m.

Our lesson will be: “inspired to Share His Story,” found on page 16 of the Fall Lutheran Women’s Quarterly. Please join us as we enjoy the study of God’s Word and Christian fellowship.

Voter’s Meeting: Next Sunday, October 18, the quarterly voter’s meeting with election of officers will be at 1:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall in Creston. Or, members may participate via Zoom at the church in Mt. Ayr.

The annual meeting of the Trinity, Creston Altar Guild has been scheduled Monday, October 19, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Rutz. It will be held in the Creston Nave/Sanctuary. All current members are encouraged to attend. This is an open meeting – any Trinity member interested in learning about the duties and activities of the Altar Guild is welcome to attend. There is no obligation - attendance does not mean that you will be expected to join.

MISSIONS

Library: Don’t forget to stop by the church library and bookstore in the fellowship hall to check out the latest offerings. A selection of materials will also be available at the Mt. Ayr location.

T-Shirt Orders: The Mission Board has designed a new Trinity Lutheran Church t-shirt. Sample shirts are available for viewing. If you are interested in ordering a shirt, please take an order form and turn it in to Julie Rutz, along with payment, no later than October 20.

Used Portals of Prayer can be placed in the box located below the mailboxes in the Narthex. These will be distributed free next summer by the LLL at the Iowa State Fair. There is a big demand for these. Thank you.

Our LWML bake/craft sale will be held at Trinity (Creston) on Sunday, November 1 during the fellowship time. Start thinking of what you would like to bring. Proceeds from sale will be used for LWML Missions.

Message from District Office: If you haven’t heard about ILSTO, now is the time to take a closer look. This is the program whereby you can contribute and your dollars will benefit families wanting to send their children to Iowa Lutheran elementary & secondary schools. The benefits you receive are two-fold: 1) You get to see more children experiencing the love of God every day, and 2) You will receive a 65% tax credit on your Iowa state income taxes and a charitable deduction on your Federal return. We are currently at 15% of our 2020 goal. For further information, please contact Dewey Torkelson at 712-260-2991. You might also check the website: www.iowalutheransto.org awww.iowasto.org
