October 6, 2019 The Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost and LWML Sunday

Post date: Oct 14, 2019 3:47:29 PM

For the Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost on Oct. 6, 2019

Hab. 1:1-4; 2:1-4 2 Tim. 1:1-14 Luke 17:1-10 (printed here)

Temptations to Sin

1And he said to his disciples, “Temptations to sin are sure to come, but woe to the one through whom they come! 2 It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin. 3 Pay attention to yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, 4 and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”

Increase Our Faith

5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” 6 And the Lord said, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.

Unworthy Servants

7 “Will any one of you who has a servant plowing or keeping sheep say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and recline at table’? 8 Will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare supper for me, and dress properly, and serve me while I eat and drink, and afterward you will eat and drink’? 9 Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded? 10 So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’”

Life Together

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance. On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand the card to an usher.

LWML Sunday is today. Fellowship time will include goodies prepared by members as well as the Craft/Bake Sale. All of you are invited to come down to the fellowship hall after the service to join together for this time. Proceeds from the Craft/Bake Sale will be used to support LWML mission projects. The large mite box is also located in the back of the church. Mite offerings are also used to support LWML mission projects. Thanks you for your continued support of the work of the LWML.

Naomi Circle will meet on Wednesday, October 9 at 1:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Our topic will be “The Pharaoh’s Daughter”, found on page 19 of the Fall quarterly. Please join us for Bible Study and fellowship.

You have until the end of the year – Dec. 31 – to mail your gift. We know the need is becoming greater – How can you help? Giving is not limited to Lutherans, church members, etc. If you know someone who could benefit from a 65% tax credit, please give them a donor form. Remember the financial benefit to a contributor is a 65% tax credit on Iowa income taxes (which can be carried over for five years) and also a 35% charitable contribution on your federal form. For more information about ILSTO go online to www.iowalutheransto.org or call Dewey Torkelson at 712-260-2991.
