Beginning September 2 in Adult Bible Class we will study the Lord's Supper.

LifeLight begins Monday, Sep 10 and Tuesday, Sep 11. We will study Matthew, part two. For information and lesson material, see Janette or Mike Lang. It is not necessary to have completed Matthew part one to take this course. Please join us for this study of the Gospel according to St. Matthew.

LUTHERAN: IT'S NOT A SLOGAN, IT'S A CONFESSION...Issues, Etc. is a radio talk show hosted by LCMS Pastor Todd Wilken and produced by Lutheran Public Radio. This week's topics include: What Defiles a Man?, Saint Augustine, The Martyrdom of John the Baptist, Joshua and more. You can listen on-demand at

The delegates at the District Convention unanimously passed a resolution encouraging congregations in Iowa District West to take part in Operation Barnabas. Delegates also passed a resolution by a 98% majority encouraging each congregation to appoint a representative to receive communications from the Iowa District West Operation Barnabas Task Force. We are asking all pastors to forward the name and contact information for that individual to the Task Force Chairman, the Rev. Michael Wolfram as soon as possible. Pastor Wolfram’s contact information is: Rev. Michael Wolfram, Trinity Lutheran Church 3223 University Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50311, 515-279-3609, or  Please talk to pastor Watt if you’d like to volunteer for this position.

2012 Military Family Retreat (Part of Operation Barnabus) September 21-23 at Camp Okiboji. This retreat is for all military families who have recently had a family member return from deployment. Please talk to Pastor Watt if you know of a military family that would benefit from this retreat. There are flyers on the narthex table. If you know a military family that would be benefited by this retreat, this would be a great opportunity to utilize the Christian Care Fund. Request forms are found on the narthex table.

Building Healthy Families: Somebody has said there are only two kinds of people in the world. There are those who wake up in the morning and say, “Good morning, Lord!” and there are those who wake up in the morning and say, “Good Lord, it’s morning!” It is almost always true that “mood follows message”: how we feel emotionally results from what we tell ourselves about any given situation. The next time you are having a bad day, check your thoughts. Then replace negative, untrue self-statements with the truth. LFS counselors are available to help change negative patterns. Life Quote: “Abortion drops a name placed upon a unique and treasured person. It is a name known by God before all eternity for all eternity. It is a name of a boy or girl who would have impacted this world in ways we’ll never know. Abortion drops a name from a teacher’s grade book; from 4-H or Boy Scouts or Junior Olympics; from schools of music, agriculture, or medicine; from the consumer index and first-time home ownership; from the tax rolls; from marriage, parenthood, and genealogies. Abortion drops a name from baptism, confirmation, and the mission field.” Linda D. Bartlett, – A “Life Quote” from Lutherans For Life ·

It was a great week with lots of kids to share our message with; many have been coming since preschool which shows what a tremendous outreach our preschool is to the community. Whether you led a session, corralled kids, helped in the kitchen, took kids outside, or provided snack items.....thank you so much!! We can't do it without everyone working together!

We want to thank everyone for the cards and the words of comfort and prayers for my daughter in law at this sad time. Velma Lorenz.
