Vacancy Updates:  We thank Martin Herzberg for leading our services this morning.   Next Sunday, Rev. Lyle Hansen will be coming to lead services.   Communion will be at both Mt. Ayr and Creston. 

Janitorial Job Opening:  Trinity Lutheran Church Trustees are looing for a person to fill the janitorial position.  For more information contact Phil Wardenburg or Byron Bilderback.  Maggie Dorry will be in charge of ordering janitorial and Fellowship Hall supplies.   If you see something we are needing, talk with Maggie.

 

Adult Bible Class will resume today in the Fellowship Hall following the Divine Service.  We will begin a five week study of: “How We Got the Bible”, a video study featuring Dr. Paul L. Maier.  The class will be led by Mike Lang.

 

Naomi Circle will meet this Wednesday, June 8 at 1:30p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for Bible study and fellowship.  Our topic will be “Humbly Grateful or Grumbly Hateful?”  This study is found on page 24 of the Summer 2016 Quarterly.  Please join us for Bible study and fellowship.

 

Linda, the office assistant, will be out of the office June 10-18.  There will be an announcements sheet on June 12 but not on June 19.   If you have important announcements that you would normally have printed on the 19th please turn them in by Wednesday, June 8 so that they can  be included n the June 12 announcements. 

Next Sunday, June 12, there will be a Southwest Iowa Circuit Picnic at 3:00 p.m. at Viking Lake State Park, near Stanton.  See the flyer in today’s bulletin for more details.

 

On Sunday, June 12 we will be collecting a special thank-offering that will be sent to the 2016 LCMS National Convention.   See the flyer in today’s bulletin (backside of picnic flyer) for more information. 

 

An open house reception will be held on Saturday, June 25 from 2-4 pm in the Fellowship Hall for Martin Herzberg and family.   Martin will be ordained into the ministry the next day at St. John’s in Clarinda.   More information about that will be shared as plans become finalized. 

 

On Sunday, July 3, Pastor Stephen Oliver will be preaching only at the Creston location.   He will also talk during the Bible Class hour at 11:00 a.m. to tell us of his mission work in Taiwan.   There will NOT be a service in Mt. Ayr, so everyone from Mt. Ayr is invited and encouraged to come to Creston to hear Pastor Oliver.   The invitation is still open to anyone who would like to welcome Pastor Oliver ( and maybe his wife, Maggie) to stay at their house for the night.  After the Bible Class hour there will be a “picnic” potluck served in the fellowship hall with grilled hamburgers and hot dogs.  We hope you’ll start thinking of your favorite “picnic” dish to share.   The weekend wil be a busy one since it is over the 4th, but we hope all will want to hear Pastor Oliver.   Remember, there will only be one service at Trinity in Creston that Sunday at 9:45 a.m.  If anyone has a question feel free to speak to any board member.   From the Mission Board-Anita Wardenburg, Susan Larsen, Jean Stoll, Bill Magers, and Maggie Dory

Trinity now owns a copy of the Lutheran Service Book in large print.   It takes  large books to make one copy of the hymnal.   By owning this we now have permission to make a few copies of the hymns for each Sunday.  The books were published by Lutheran Braille Workers and were free of charge, but they would like a donation to help defray printing costs.  You are invited to use the Braille Workers envelope found in your offering box to make a donation.   We will accumulate offerings until June 19 and then send them one check.  

 

The Christian Care Fund had no requests for aid during May.  The current account balance is $234.88.

The large LWML mite box will be in the back of the church during the month of June.   We will be accepting offerings from any member (men, too) which will help fund the district and national mission grants.   Thank you to everyone who has helped to support the LWML in the past and we encourage and thank you also for your continued support in the future.

Cans for Cancer:  We’re still collecting cans for our donation to Relay for Life.   The bigger box will be moved into the Fellowship Hall for these final weeks.   Volunteers to take cans to the redemption center would be greatly appreciated.  Ave June 17th s a Fellowship Event for Relay for Life at Panther Field in Creston.   The survivor lap is at 6:00pm so cancer survivors are welcome to join with others cheering them on!  Bring a lawn chair and snack and help support the many people we pray for who still deal with this dreaded disease or celebrate with those who are cancer free

The Baby Bundles, that is an ongoing mission project for the LWML, which helps out the Life Care Clinic, is in need of newborn sizes of receiving blankets, onesies, sleeper, diapers, booties/socks and caps.  There will be a basket in the narthex for the collection of these items.  Thank you all again for your continued support of the Baby Bundles and the Life Care Clinic.   If you have questions contact Maggie Dory.

VBS Dates for 2016    Creston July 5-8     Mt. Ayr July 25-27 VBS volunteer night is coming up.  Watch for date and details.  This year’s theme is “Barnyard Roundup:  Jesus Gathers Us Together” so we will be decorating with a farm theme.   Items we might use:  a few hay bales, a saddle, a stick horse, a little bigger stuffed animals (cows, pigs, sheep, horses, etc.) or any other items we could use for decorations.  VBS Staff:  We will once again need people to help (opening leader, Bible Challenge leader, snack helpers, preschool teacher, and other volunteers to move from place to place with kids.  Watch for a sign up sheet..
