Announcements - THE SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER (APRIL 29, 2012)

Post date: Apr 30, 2012 12:51:50 PM

Witness

THE FAITH ONCE FOR ALL DELIVERED TO THE SAINTS...Issues, Etc. is a radio talk show produced by Lutheran Public Radio and hosted by LCMS Pastor Todd Wilken. You can listen to teachings on subjects like: St. Philip & St. James, 4th Century Bishop of Alexandria Athanasius, 16th Century Lutheran Ruler Frederick the Wise, 19th Century Lutheran Missionary Friedrich Wyneken and more. You can listen to what you want when you want at www.issuesetc.org.

Why do we open up the Baptismal Font during Holy Communion? Simple, to remind you of your Baptism. Through it you were made God's child. You were marked with "the sign of the cross both upon your forehead and upon your heart, to mark you as one redeemed by Christ the Crucified." If you wish you can dip your fingers in the water and remember your baptism by retracing the cross on your forehead.

Mercy

Building Healthy Families: In the 1960s and 70s, parents complained because the music blaring from their teenager’s room was too loud. Today, parents can’t hear it at all, thanks to ear buds. Today, the average child gets about 21 minutes per day of primary attention from their parents, but spends 10.25 hours per day with the internet and/or TV. Do you know what your kids are listening to and watching? You should! Take note of 1 Peter 5:8 and monitor your child’s use of technology: “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” Lutheran Family Service of Iowa (515-251-4900)

If you know of someone who needs help after the tornado please use the blue Christian Care distribution request forms found on the Narthex table. The completed forms should be given to Pastor Watt.

Life Quote: “A mother need never fear children that seem inconvenient or strip her of her ‘freedom.’ Like Jesus, she can welcome a little child (Mark 10:14). And, when a mother grieves because she aborted her child in a moment of fear, she can look to Jesus the Savior who hears her cry of repentance and welcomes her into His waiting and forgiving arms. In Jesus, she is free to love and defend the blessing of life.” Linda D. Bartlett, www.titu2-4life.org – A “Life Quote” from Lutherans For Life · www.lutheransforlife.org

Please give to the Christian Care fund for Tornado Relief. Use the envelopes on the narthex table (Thanksgiving, or Designated funds).

Please use the Signup Sheet on the Narthex table to help with donation distribution at the stage distribution center. We will be operating the center until at least May 4.

Trinity has received a grant from LCMS World Relief and Human Care. The Christian Care Committee and the Mission Board will be distributing the funds as indicated in the Grant. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Life Together

Community Prayer Service: There will be an ecumenical prayer service tonight (April 29) at the McKinley Park bandshell at 6:00pm, coordinated by the Union County Ministerial Alliance. This service will give us a chance to gather as a community to pray for those affected by the tornado and give thanks for the volunteer work and recovery efforts from people both near and far. A special offering will be collected and donations will go to the Crisis Fund to continue helping those in need in our community. The needs continue to increase in the wake of the storm!
