August 30, 2020 The Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Post date: Aug 27, 2020 4:52:17 PM

For the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost on August 30, 2020

Jeremiah 15:15-21

Romans 12:9-21

Matthew 16:21-28

Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection

21 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. 22 And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.” 23 But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

Take Up Your Cross and Follow Jesus

24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. 28 Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance. Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.

On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.

Library: The Mission Board has recently re-organized the church library and bookstore, located in the fellowship hall in Creston. New materials have been added including adult & children’s books, reference materials and DVDs. To check-out materials, simply record the items you are borrowing on the self check-out form. If you would like to purchase something from the bookstore, use a purchase envelope and drop it in the offering plate. From time to time, Pastor Rutz will be reviewing and giving recommendations on good books to read and the Mission Board plans on continuing to add new materials as they become available. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor or Julie Rutz.

Greeting Cards: Do you buy greeting cards here at the church? Do you want this service continued? Please check the sheet on the table in the narthex to express your opinion. If you have questions contact Sharon Eklund.

Rachel Circle will meet this Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 6:30 p.m., outdoors on the church lawn by the trees, weather permitting. Bring a lawn chair. If raining, they will meet in the fellowship hall. All women are invited.

Early risers will resume on Tuesday, September 8, at 6:30 am. We will begin to read and discuss the Book of Acts. Please join us for Scripture, coffee and conversation.

Naomi Circle will meet at 1:30 pm on Sept. 9 by the McKinley Park bear. In case of rain we’ll go to the fellowship hall.

Wedding: Molly Rutz and John Knosp will be married in Nebraska on Sept. 26th. If you would like to contribute to a monetary gift from Trinity Congregation please give to Theola Bullock in Mt. Ayr or Sharon Eklund in Creston (or place envelope in basket on narthex table in CR). We will collect through Sunday, Sept. 20, then send gift with Pastor and Julie for Molly and John on their wedding day. Thank you.
