For The Sixth Sunday after the Epiphany on Feb. 16, 2020

Deuteronomy 30:15-20 I Corinthians 3:1-9

Matthew 5:21-37

21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire. 23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. 26 Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny. 27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell. 31 “It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ 32 But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

33 “Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.’ 34 But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. 36 And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. 37 Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.

Life Together

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the service for a time of fellowship.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance. On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand the card to an usher.

If you have moved or have a different phone number, or email address please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Transfiguration Sunday: Next Sunday we will observe the festival of the Transfiguration of our Lord. Holy Communion will be in both Creston and Mt. Ayr.

Ash Wednesday will be on Wednesday, February 26 and we will have a service at 6:00 p.m. in Creston. During that service we will have the imposition of ashes and Holy Communion.

Lenten Services will be at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, in Creston, throughout Lent. Holy week will be the week of April 5-11 with services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday and Easter Sunday is on April 12.

Printed Sermons Now Available on the Website: Printed copies of the sermons are now available on the church website. Go to www.trinitycreston.org

In the left hand column look under Worship and you will see a category that says Sermons. Click on that. Then choose the date of the sermon you’d like to read. If you see a blank page first, keep scrolling down and the sermon should appear.

Trinity Preschool Fundraiser: A fundraiser will be coming up with proceeds going towards the purchase of a laminator for Trinity Preschool. It will be Burger and Fries Night at Hy-Vee on Tuesday, Feb. 25 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Thank you for your support of Trinity Preschool as well as your continued prayers for them.
