Post date: Feb 15, 2019 5:01:50 PM

For the Sixth Sunday after the Epiphany on February 17, 2019

For your own personal reading at home this week.

Jeremiah 17:5-8

I Corinthians 15: (1-11) 12-20

Luke 6:17-26

Jesus Ministers to a Great Multitude

17 And he came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, 18 who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. And those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. 19 And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came out from him and healed them all.

The Beatitudes

20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said:

“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.

21 “Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied.

“Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

22 “Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! 23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.

Jesus Pronounces Woes

24 “But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.

25 “Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry.

“Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.

26 “Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.

Life Together

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance. On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand the card to an usher.

Sunday Morning Bible Study: 8:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall. All are welcome to attend. The topic we are studying is:

The Augsburg Confession: Lutheran Doctrine and Practice Today

The Augsburg Confession is just as relevant to the life of the Church today as it was during sixteenth century Reformation.

Topics include but are not limited to:

Biblical marriage and the civil government

How to approach church fellowship with all Christians

The important roles of clergy and laity, according to Scripture

Reformation heresies we still see in the Church today

Persecution and terrorism.

Valentine Supper hosted by Trinity Youth Group: Tonight, Feb. 17, at 5:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall (CR).

LifeLight Bible Study was postponed last week due to the snowy weather. Now it will begin this week. The class meets on Mondays at 6:30 pm and the session repeats on Tuesdays at 1:00 pm. We are studying the second half of the “Book of Acts.” Our focus will be on the activities of the Apostle Paul as he witnesses the Gospel in Asia Minor, Europe and Rome. Dr. Martin Luther wrote this about the Book of Acts: “…by this book St. Luke teaches the whole of Christendom…that the true and chief article of Christian doctrine is this: We must all be justified alone by faith in Jesus Christ, without any contribution from the law of help from our works.” For information and study materials, contact Mike or Janette Lang.

Handy Helpers Quilting will meet at 9:00 on Tuesday,

Feb, 19 in the fellowship hall. This was inadvertently omitted from the monthly calendar.

Missing: Two of the children’s bags and contents (clipboard, crayons, children’s bulletin) are missing from the basket in the back of the church. If anyone finds a bag you may put it in the basket or drop it off on the counter in the office.

Fellowship Hall Reservations Reminder: If you ever need to inquire about reserving Trinity’s fellowship hall, Mike Lang continues to be the contact person, as he has been for several years. Once a reservation is scheduled, then the information is shared to be added to the church calendar and announcement sheets.

Ash Wednesday Service will be on Wednesday, March 6, at 6:00 p.m. in Creston. For the following weeks, Wednesday evening Lenten services will also begin at 6:00 p.m. in Creston.

MISSIONS

MOVIE NIGHT!! On Sunday, March 3rd there will be a movie presentation of "Risen", which will begin at 6:00 pm. The movie lasts about 1½ hours. We will take a real brief break about half way thru, just to stretch or reload your plates with snacks. Everyone can bring their favorite snack to share, but you don't have to. We will provide popcorn. You can also bring a friend!! The pop machine is available with a good choice of sodas. This movie is a good family movie and is at a very appropriate time, as the Lenten season will begin just a few days afterwards. The Mission Board hopes that many of you will plan to attend.

A diaper drive will continue through the end of February. This drive is to help out the Life Care Clinic here in Creston. Diapers that are needed are Huggies and Pampers in sizes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6. All diapers can be dropped off at the Clinic or brought to church and put in a receiving blanket lined basket in the narthex. The Creston Clinic hours are: Monday 10-2; Tuesday & Thursday 1-7. The address is 1109 S. Sumner, Creston, IA 50801. 641-782-2150. Thank you in advance for helping out the families at the LC Clinic. From The Mission Board.

Mission Prayer: Lord, lay some soul upon my heart and love the soul through me, and help me humbly do my part to lead that soul to Thee. Amen.
