For The Second Sunday after Christmas on January 3, 2021

I Kings 3:4-15

Ephesians 1:3-14

Luke 2:40-52

The Boy Jesus in the Temple

41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom. 43 And when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, 44 but supposing him to be in the group they went a day's journey, but then they began to search for him among their relatives and acquaintances, 45 and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, searching for him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 And when his parents[a] saw him, they were astonished. And his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.” 49 And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?”[b] 50 And they did not understand the saying that he spoke to them. 51 And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And his mother treasured up all these things in her heart.

52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature[c] and in favor with God and man.

LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.

He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after the 9:00 service or prior to the 11:00 service for a time of fellowship.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance. Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.

On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card.

If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Attendance via Livestreamed and You Tube Services: During this pandemic period, if you watch the Divine Service online and wish to have your attendance recorded, please call Linda at the church office 782-5095 or email her at

lhadley@trinitycreston.org and let her know the date of the service that you watched.

Private Communion Times: If you would like to take holy communion privately, please call Pastor to set up an appointment. Common cup is also available to families or small groups upon request.

Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.

Removal of the Greens in Creston will be TODAY Sunday, January 3, 2021 following the Divine Service. With plenty of help the job will go more quickly.

Offering Envelopes for 2021 may be found in your church mailbox if you haven’t already picked them up. If you have any questions, please speak to Kevin Kruse, the financial secretary.

Library: Don’t forget to stop by the church library and bookstore in the fellowship hall to check out the latest offerings. A selection of materials is also available at the Mt. Ayr location.

New Portals of Prayer for January-March are available to be picked up in the back of the church.

Used Portals of Prayer can be placed in the box located below the mailboxes in the Narthex. These will be distributed free next summer by the LLL at the Iowa State Fair. There is a big demand for these. Thank you.

January Board Meetings: All boards will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13 in the fellowship hall. It’s time to plan for 2021. Please make effort to attend this meeting. Council will meet the next week at 6:00 p.m. on Wed., January 20. Please note this schedule change from previous months to allow the boards more time to meet and plan for the year.

Thank You

Thank you to the congregation for the Christmas gift of cash and to all who sent gifts and cards to remember our family for Christmas. We have been blessed with your support and encouragement. Trinity’s response to the Lord’s ministry has been unwavering even in this challenging year. May you all continuie to live in the eternal assurance of being God’s children redeemed by Jesus.

In Christ,

Pastor, Julie, Jacob & Jeremy
