For The Fifth Sunday after Pentecost on July 14, 2019
Leviticus 18:1-5 19:9-18
Colossians 1:1-14
Luke 10:25-37
The Parable of the Good Samaritan
25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”
29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” 30 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’ 36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.
Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance. On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand the card to an usher.
Thank You: We thank Rev. Larry Troxel for sharing God’s Word with us this morning. Rev. Troxel served as pastor at Trinity from 1976-1982 and now resides in Johnston, Iowa.
Youth Gathering: Haylee Brown, Kate Foglesong, Elizabeth Hadley, Lauren Hadley, Jacob Rutz, Jeremy Rutz, and Logan Shady are attending the National Youth Gathering in Minneapolis. Pastor Rutz, Jen Foglesong, and Tammy Burgmaier are their chaperones. We pray that God will grant them a safe trip after the gathering ends on Monday.
In case of an emergency and you are in need of pastoral care while Pastor is with the youth at the National Youth Gathering contact Pastor Keith Schweitzer (pastor at Immanuel Lutheran in Greenfield). Pastor Schweitzer’s cell phone number is 641-745-5143 and Immanuel’s phone number is 641-743-2116.
Camp Okoboji offers many youth camps starting in April thru the first of August. If any of our youth are interested, please go to the Camp Okoboji website and check them out. Trinity has scholarship money and will pay up to half of the fee depending on how many apply for funds. Turn in your receipt in August and we will reimburse you. Brochures are available on the table in the narthex.
MISSIONS
The large LWML Mite Box will be sitting at the back of the church during the month of July. The Lutheran Women in Mission would like to thank everyone for your support to our organization.
TODAY is the Deadline to Sign Up: Today is the last Sunday for members to sign up to go on a trip to Mission Central to hear Pastor Stephen Oliver speak of his missionary work in Taiwan. This week we have to turn in a number coming, so they know how many to serve. We will carpool from the church leaving about 8:00 am on Saturday, July 27. We are to arrive by 10:45 and will start with a tour of the Creation Museum. Then we have lunch and finally at 1:00 pm listen to Pastor Oliver and Pastor Hanson. We should get back to Creston around 4:00-5:00 pm. Please list how many are going and if you can drive. There is no charge for this trip. Please ask any Mission Board member if you have questions.
Used Portals of Prayer can be placed in the box located below the mailboxes in the Narthex. These will be distributed free next summer by the LLL at the Iowa State Fair. There is a big demand for these. Thank you.
The LWML is requesting donations for items of the LIFE CARE CLINIC BABY BUNDLES, which either gender can wear in newborn sizes. In June, at the fish fry meeting, we met briefly and decided to keep the bundles as an on going mission project for the Lutheran Women in Missions. In order to do this, we need all of the following items: (1) diapers (2) sock/booties (3) long sleeved sleeper (4) burp bib (5) onesies (6) cap (7) receiving blankets. The long sleeved sleepers seem to be the most difficult item to get. If it is more convenient, a check can be made to the LWML with BABY BUNDLES written in the memo and placed in the large MITE box at the back of the church or given to Maggie. A Bible, Prayer Book and Mustard Seed Devotion are also included in each bundle. There is a receiving blanket lined basket in the narthex where these items can be placed. Deb Melzer is so graciously taking over this project, so if you have any ideas or thoughts you'd like to share, please contact her. The LWML sincerely thanks her for volunteering to keep this very important mission project on going. We also thank all of you for the continued responses to the LWML and being able to Serve The Lord With Gladness.
Trinity will have a display in the air conditioned food building at the Union County Fair, July 18th-24th.
