March 11, 2018 The Fourth Sunday in Lent

Post date: Mar 13, 2018 3:44:57 PM

For The Fourth Sunday in Lent on March 11, 2018.

Numbers 21: 4-9

Ephesians 2:1-10

John 3:14-21

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

For God So Loved the World

16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received form God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Naomi Circle will meet this Wednesday, March 14, at 1:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for Bible Study and fellowship. Our topic will be “ Knowing Jesus Gives My Life Balance” This study is found on page 22 of the Winter 2017 Quarterly. Please join us for Bible study and fellowship.

Lenten Suppers: All are invited to join together for supper at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, prior to the 7:00 p.m. Lenten Service. Naomi Circle is sponsoring this week’s meal featuring walking tacos. All are welcome!

MISSIONS

Thank you to the Mission Board members for preparing and serving the delicious lunch last Tuesday before the presentation by James and Christel Neuendorf, missionaries to the Dominican Republic. On the table in the narthex, you will find a few copies of the latest newsletter from the Neuendorfs. The newsletter gives some updates about mission work. Feel free to take a copy home.

Thank you for your partnership! Just as a congregation is dependent on the financial gifts of their members, so Iowa District West is dependent on the gifts we receive from our partner congregations. Last year you provided just over $1.5 million to help us support Christ’s mission. Those funds enabled us to support 5 missionary partners in IDW, support over 30 congregations with mission grants, provide workshops and resources in a variety of areas, support the work of the LCMS, and work with you as you carry out Christ’s mission in your community. As a result, hundreds of individuals came to faith just in IDW, thousands were strengthened in their faith, and a new congregation was planted (The Gate, Ankeny)! Thank you again and may God richly bless our partnership in 2018.

Pres. Steve Turner and the staff of IDW

CANS FOR CANCER: The Mission Board would like to thank all who have donated cans to the Cans For Cancer recycling box in the narthex. Every so often these cans are cashed in and then the money is saved and all monies then given to the American Cancer Society. Nothing is kept back to buy water or any other supplies for the Relay for Life in June. Thank you again for your continued generosity to this very worthy cause.

Weekly Lenten services will be held in Creston on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. Upcoming congregational suppers will be held March 14, 21 at 5:30 p.m. prior to the church services.
