For The Twenty-Third Sunday after Pentecost on Nov. 17, 2019

Malachi 4:1-5

2 Thessalonians 3:(1-5) 6-13

Luke 21:5-28 (29-36) Verses 29-36 are printed here.

The Lesson of the Fig Tree

29 And he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30 As soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near. 31 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. 32 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all has taken place. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

Watch Yourselves

34 “But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. 35 For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Life Together

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance. On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand the card to an usher.

If you have moved or have a different phone number, or email address please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.

Bible Study: “Sinners and Saints” Join us as we have begun a new Bible study on Sundays at 8am in Creston and beginning on Tuesday December 3rd at 6:30pm in Mount Ayr! This study will give you insight into how you are both and ultimately, how you can come to a deeper understanding of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ our Lord. For questions, contact Pastor Rutz. 782-5095 or 712-621-5971.

Correction: On the yellow November calendars, the time for the November 20 council meeting should be 6:00, not 6:30. Please note this correction on your calendar at home. Boards still meet at 5:30 pm.

ALTAR GUILD cleaning and polishing the Altar Ware and furnishings will be Saturday, November 23 at 9:00 a.m. Supplies will be provided. This important task usually takes 2 hours. We thank you for your help.

Need Help With Fall Yard Clean Up?

The Trinity Youth Group is here to help. Just let Pastor, Jen Foglesong, or any of our youth group if you would be interested. Next Sunday, Nov. 24 is the day the youth are planning to do the work, weather permitting. The time is yet to be determined. From the Trinity LutheranYouth For Christ

Thanksgiving Eve Service: The Thanksgiving Eve Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27 in Creston. Holy Communion will be part of the service. All offerings from that night will go towards the Christian Care Fund. That fund is used to help people in need in our communities.

Christian Care Fund: Recently, we have had the privilege to help several families in need. At this time, our funds are exhausted. Our Thanksgiving Eve Service offerings will all go towards this fund. Donations are also accepted at any time. Designate those offerings for the Christian Care Fund.
