Post date: Oct 16, 2018 4:53:47 PM

For the Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost on Oct. 14, 2018.

Amos 5:6-7, 10-15

Hebrews 3:12-19

Mark 10:17-22

The Rich Young Man

17 And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’”20 And he said to him, “Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth.” 21 And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance. On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand the card to an usher.

The Annual Circuit Reformation Service will be held 4:00 pm at St. Paul, Lutheran Church of Clarinda NEXT SUNDAY, October 21. The guest preacher is the Reverend Jeffrey Keuning of Zion, Dexter. Following the service, a soup supper will be served by youth as a fundraiser for Higher Things Conferences next summer. Make plans to join us in celebrating with fellow Lutherans in southwest Iowa the restoration of Gospel to Christ’s Church and the truth of Scripture alone, grace alone, and faith alone. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Pastor Appreciation Potluck: Please plan to come to the Pastor and family Appreciation Potluck on Sunday, October 28th at 5:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Bring your favorite dish to share. We hope all can attend to let Pastor and his family know how blessed Trinity is to have all of them here. See you on the 28th!! The Mission Board.

Invitations have been completed for the "90 Years of Blessings" celebration, so be watching for them in your mailbox at church or mailbox at home. The celebration is for Sunday,

November 18th, with a special Divine Worship Service at

10:00 a.m. and then a catered meal afterwards. We are asking that you complete the response card if you can attend and how many there will be attending from your household. November 4th is the date we would like to have the cards returned and placed in a box on the table in the narthex.

From the "90 Years of Blessings" Committ

Attention All Members! Deb Melzer answered our request to take informal pictures at the Creston location for our 90th anniversary booklet. She would like to take most after church services, but will make arrangements for shut ins or others, if it is not possible to take them after church. She would like families that can't get the whole family together because being off to school or other reasons, please have info about that person/persons available to her. She will be starting in the next week. Thank you for your cooperation. "The 90 Years of Blessings" Anniversary Committee.

FAMILY FALL FESTIVAL

Trinity Preschool will be hosting a Family Fall Festival on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the church. Weather permitting, most activities will be outdoors. In case of rain, the activities will be moved inside the fellowship hall. Activities will include fall games, a photo booth, bakewalk, leaf prints, popcorn, candy, and a bouncy house. All families are welcome. There will be a cost of $8.00 per family and the funds will be used for Trinity Preschool as they work towards achieving National Lutheran Schools Accreditation.

MISSIONS

The large LWML Mite Box will be sitting in the back of the church the whole month of October. We thank Pastor and everyone for making last Sunday such a special day and wonderful event. The fellowship adds so much. We have already reserved Sunday, October 6, 2019 for our special LWML Sunday next year. You will be hearing from us soon to let you know the final tally from MITES. Thank you all again for letting us Serve the Lord with Gladness.

From the LWML ladies.

Used Portals of Prayer can be placed in the box located below the mailboxes in the Narthex. These will be distributed free next summer by the LLL at the Iowa State Fair. There is a big demand for these. Thank you.

The 10th Annual IOWAY Banquet for Iowa District West will be held on Saturday, November 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson, IA, beginning with registration at 4:30. Some information sheets about the banquet are available on the table in the narthex. If you plan to attend you will need to make a reservation and information about how to do so are included on the information sheet.
