He gives out of His grace, not what we deserve to receive. Living a godly life means living in imitation of God – and surely one of the foundations of God’s being is His generosity.
  • We are in need of one or two people who would be interested in teaching school for the pre-k/k age group in Creston. As Christians we are called upon to teach the path of salvation to all. This could be a starting point for anyone who would like to see if teaching is one of their gifts. If this sounds like something you would like to do contact Deb Melzer. (21 Sep 14, Inbox)

Mercy

  • “Every human life is someone for whom Jesus shed His blood. Every human life is one He wants to call to faith in this redemptive event.” Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, executive director of Lutherans For Life – A “Life Quote” from Lutherans For Life · www.lutheransforlife.org
  • Building Healthy Families: Somebody has said there are two kinds of people in the world: those who wake up in the morning and say, “Good morning, Lord!” and those who wake up in the morning and say, “Good Lord, it’s morning!” It is true that “mood follows message”. How we feel emotionally results from how we think. The next time you are having a bad day, check your thoughts. Listen to what you are telling yourself about your situation or circumstance. Challenge and then replace negative, untrue self-statements with the truth. LFS counselors are available to help change negative patterns. Witness

  • Pastor Watt began a study of Paul's letters to the Thessalonians on September 14 (Adult bible class hour). In these short letters, St. Paul encourages the small Thessalonian congregation to live in the Gospel and to fulfill their calling as Christians in a very pagan culture. Also we see Paul's deep pastoral care as he addresses issues in the life of the small congregation. The problems come from living in a hostile pagan culture and misunderstandings of Paul's prior teaching. Important topics covered in the letters include: The intermediate state (what happens to Christians when they die); The resurrection of the dead; The "Rapture" ; Christian vocation; and the doctrine of antichrist. Join us following worship every sunday as we read the text and apply it to our own context.
  • QUALITY, QUANTITY, QUOTABLE....Issues, Etc. is a radio talk show hosted by LCMS Pastor Todd Wilken and produced by Lutheran Public Radio in Collinsville, IL. This week's topics include: The Doctrine of Justification, Cain & Abel, Joseph Smith & the Golden Plates, The Prussian Union and more. You can listen at your convenience at www.issuesetc.org.
  • LWML—In Gathering items for the LWML Fall Rally will be School Kits. The Fall Rally will be held at the Creston location on October 4, 2014 in the fellowship hall. The bags for the School Kits are located under the narthex table in the box marked “LWML” in Creston. Also on the narthex table is a list of the items for the School Kits please take one. If you would like to provide one, several or all on the list LWML ladies would appreciate those donations as well. Please see Janice Nook if you would like to give a cash donation for items to be purchased. All the ladies are welcome to participate. There will be bags and School Kits sheets available in the Mt Ayr location. For the Mt Ayr location please place the filled bags or items collected in Pastor’s Transfer box to come over to Creston. Any questions please contact Janice Nook.
