For The Eighth Sunday after Pentecost on August 4, 2019

For your own personal reading at home this week.

Eccl. 1:2, 12-14 2:18-26

Col. 3:1-11

Luke 12:13-21

The Parable of the Rich Fool

13 Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” 14 But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” 15 And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” 16 And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17 and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ 18 And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ 21 So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance. On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand the card to an usher.

MISSIONS

Thanks to all for your continued support for contributing to the LWML Mite box during the month of July. District and National grants are able to be paid in full due to your generous giving. Lutheran Women in Mission.

Thank You: The Mission Board would like to thank all who traveled to Mission Central on July 27 to hear Pastor Stephen Oliver and Pastor Carl Hansen. It was a great experience to see the Creation Museum and hear how these missionary families are spreading the word of God in remote places where Christ has never been heard about before. We continue to pray for their safety and strength to be able to endure the many challenges they are confronted with.

Relay for Life: Saturday, August 31st is the Relay for Life event. Any money collected from Cans for Cancer will be given to the American Cancer Society. The box is located in the Narthex for the convenience of your cans/bottles, or money can be given directly to Julie Lang. Thank you all for your continued support to this very important cause, so maybe someday cancer will be a disease no one has to endure!
