June 16, 2019 Trinity Sunday

Post date: Jun 17, 2019 3:30:34 PM

For Holy Trinity Sunday on June 16, 2019

Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31

Acts 2:14a, 22-36

John 8:48-59

Before Abraham Was, I Am

48 The Jews answered him, “Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?” 49 Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. 50 Yet I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks it, and he is the judge. 51 Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.” 52 The Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon! Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say, ‘If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.’ 53 Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you make yourself out to be?” 54 Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’ 55 But you have not known him. I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and I keep his word. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad.” 57 So the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?” 58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” 59 So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.

Life Together

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance. On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand the card to an usher.

Introduction/Review - Lutheran Teachings/Catechesis: Pastor Rutz is teaching a class for those who would like to learn more about LCMS Lutheran teachings and for those who would like a refresher course on LCMS Lutheran teachings. The class meets on Thursday evenings from 7:00-8:30pm and will meet in the Fellowship Hall at our Creston location. If you are still interested in attending, please phone Pastor at 641-782-5095 or 712-621-5971.

LCMS National Offering The 67th Regular LCMS National Convention will be held in Tampa, FL on July 20-25, 2019. Every congregation is invited to participate in a National Offering which will set the tone for the next triennium under the theme “Joy to the World” preparing hearts for prayerful rejoicing, gratitude, and bold action. Gifts will go directly to the mission of the LCMS to make known the Good News of Jesus Christ, joy incarnate, to the world.

Today, Sunday, June 16, we will have a special door offering for this National Offering. Those offerings will be sent with our circuit voting delegate who will be attending the convention in Tampa. See the insert in today’s bulletin for more information.

VBS HELP STILL NEEDED!!!!!!

VBS in Creston will begin NEXT Sunday, June 23 and run through Wed., June 26 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

These helpers are still needed for VBS

Teacher for the preschool aged children so that we can teach them in a younger age group of their own. We have a teacher for Sun. and Mon. nights but she has to be out of town after that so we need a teacher for Tues. and Wed. nights. If you can teach those two nights or even aide her on Sun. and Mon. and teach on Tues. and Wed. that would be great. If you are able to help out, please contact Becky Hagen. Her phone number is 782-2442.

We also need a few more “crew leaders” to guide small groups of children to the different activities.

VBS Work Night will be Wednesday, June 19 at 6:00 pm in the fellowship hall in Creston. We will be setting up stations for the various activities that will be held during VBS. All are invited to come and help, even if you are not available to help during the days of VBS.

MISSIONS

Trip to Mission Central: In a few short weeks we will be traveling to Mission Central in Mapleton to tour the Creation Museum/Theatre at 10:45, have a free lunch at noon and then at 1:00 listen to Pastor Stephen Oliver as he tells of his missionary work in Taiwan. Remember the date is Saturday, July 27! A sign-up sheet is posted on the table in the narthex (Creston) to let the Mission Board know how many will be going and who can drive, as we will carpool from the church. A definite number must be given to Gary Thies about 10 days before the event. Mt. Ayr members may either send a note in the transfer box or email/phone Linda at the church office and she will jot your name on the list and whether you need a ride or not. If you have any questions you can talk with any Mission Board member.
