For The Third Sunday in Lent on March 24, 2019

Ezekiel 33:7-20

I Corinthians 10:1-13

Luke 13:1-9

Repent or Perish

1 There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? 3 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? 5 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”

The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree

6 And he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. 7 And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?’ 8 And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. 9 Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.’”

Life Together

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance. On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand the card to an usher.

Sunday Morning Bible Study: 8:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall. All are welcome to attend. The topic we are studying is:

“The Augsburg Confession: Lutheran Doctrine and Practice Today”

The Augsburg Confession is just as relevant to the life of the Church today as it was during sixteenth century Reformation.

Topics include but are not limited to:

Biblical marriage and the civil government

How to approach church fellowship with all Christians

The important roles of clergy and laity, according to Scripture

Reformation heresies we still see in the Church today

Persecution and terrorism.

Fellowship Time Following Lenten Services: There will be fellowship time after each 6:00 pm Wednesday Lenten service. Everyone is invited down to the fellowship hall for refreshments and fellowship. There is a sign up sheet on the table in the Narthex for any group or individual who would like to bring bars, cookies or cakes. There may still be an open week.

The Learning Center of SW Iowa will be hosting a Trivia Night on March 30. Some churches in town put together a team and they are looking for some friendly competition. If anyone from Trinity is interested in putting together a team, more information is posted on the table in the narthex.

Rev. Mitchell Schuessler will be installed as pastor at St. John, Clarinda, next Sunday, March 31 at 3:00 p.m. All are invited to attend this service.

Trinity Preschool’s Annual Obstacle-a Thon will be held on April 3 and 4. This is a fitness awareness event. Funds from the event will be used to make improvements to the preschool facility.
