For The Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost on October 8, 2017.

Isaiah 5:1-7

Phil. 3:4b-14

Matt. 21:33-46

33 “Hear another parable. There was a master of a house who planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and leased it to tenants, and went into another country. 34 When the season for fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to get his fruit. 35 And the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. 36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them. 37 Finally he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.’ 39 And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40 When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” 41 They said to him, “He will put those wretches to a miserable death and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.”

42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?

43 Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruits. 44 And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”

45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he was speaking about them. 46 And although they were seeking to arrest him, they feared the crowds, because they held him to be a prophet.

LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS: We are so glad you jointed us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received form God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

The flowers on the altar (Creston) are given in thanksgiving to God for the many blessings he has given to Eddie and Bert Ehm during their 60 years of marriage. Their anniversary was on October 6. The flowers were given by their children and grandchildren.

Dear Trinity Lutheran Church Family: We are so grateful for your prayers and support since Paula’s surgery. Your kindness will long be remembered. God bless each one. From Charlie and Paula Bowman

MISSIONS

FREEWILL DOOR OFFERING TODAY FOR LCMS HURRICANE RELIEF: Today, October 8, we will have a special freewill offering for the hurricane and other disaster relief efforts that will be given through LCMS World Relief and Human Care. If your prefer to write a check, it may be made out to Trinity Lutheran Church but in the memo part of your check be sure to jot down that it’s for Hurricane Relief. One check from our congregation as a whole will be sent to this mission outreach. An offering plate for this mission project will be by the door, in the back of the church, as you leave this morning’s service.

THANK YOU: The LWML ladies would like to extend a very huge thank you to everyone who helped in any way to make our LWML Sunday a very special day. We, again, had a tremendous response to the baked goods and craft items. It was wonderful to have so many people stay for fellowship. The MITE offering was over $1,100.00, which exceeded last year's offering. From this offering, 25% will be sent for national grants, while the 75% will stay here locally for the district grants. The date of October 7, 2018 has already been scheduled for next year's LWML Sunday. To God Be The Glory for a fantastic day last Sunday! There are a few items left for sale on the table in the corner of the narthex. The free will offering can be put into the large MITE box that is also on the table.

From all the Creston LWML ladies.

LC CLINIC BENEFIT CONCERT: A 2nd annual benefit concert for the LC (Life Care) Clinic will be held on Sunday, October 15 at 4:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church’s fellowship hall in Creston. Performing Southern Gospel music will be soloist Phil Hague and the group Ambassadors of Grace. A freewill offering will be taken to benefit the clinic. All are invited to attend.

PORTALS OF PRAYER: Last month Trinity provided around 200 recycled Portals of Prayer for distribution from the Lutheran Laymen’s League booth at the Iowa State Fair. Please place your old Portals of Prayer in a box that is found below the mailboxes at Trinity, Creston. We will have an ongoing collection of these for distribution at the 2018 fair. Thank you for helping to share the Gospel through this project.

FACES OF THE REFORMATION

To commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation here at Trinity, you will see weekly information about some of the key men and women who the Lord worked through to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ back to the forefront. Sunday mornings at the 8:00am Bible Class, we will study these people. This study will continue through Reformation Sunday on October 29. All are invited to attend.

CELEBRATING THE REFORMATION: On Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. A special Reformation celebration will be held at Stephens Auditorium at Iowa State University. There will be a freewill offering. The celebration will feature Dr. Paul Maier, Simon Estes, and a visit from “Katie and Martin Luther”. This program is sponsored by Memorial Lutheran Church and Student Center in Ames, IA.
