Post date: Oct 2, 2009 8:20:23 PM

Ryan Frederick is a native of Adair County, Iowa. He studied the organ from his mid-teens, first with Mrs. Janna Nelson of rural Menlo, Iowa, and occasionally with Dr. Carl Staplin of Drake University. He then received five years of university-level instruction in organ and harpsichord performance from Dr. Lynn Zeigler while attending Iowa State University, where he performed his graduating senior organ recital in December of 2008. He eventually achieved a bachelor's degree in business management, along with minors in both finance and music (organ performance). He has also taken occasional instruction from and shared much correspondence with Dr. David Pickering of Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, as well as Mr. Kenneth Davis of Central Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, Iowa, both of whom he is acquainted with through involvement in the in American Guild of Organists. He is also a member of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, and a past member of the American Bach Society and the American Handel Society.

Mr. Frederick has a wide range of experience in church music. From his first post as organist at Orient United Methodist Church in Orient, Iowa, he went on to become co-organist, choirmaster, and director of music at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle, Iowa. This was followed by a position as sub-organist and bell choir director at Memorial Lutheran Church and Student Center in Ames, Iowa, where he also provided early consulting service with regard to that congregation's ongoing organ renovation project. He has given a number of recitals locally in southwest Iowa, and has additional experience accompanying funerals, weddings, and other liturgical activities across the vast majority of Christian denominations. He also offers lessons and advice locally, but is currently seeking an active position in church music.

The organ recital will feature Reformation hymns and congregational singing.

Organ Information - In the Summer of 2009 the Johannus organ company offered a selection of their instruments at half price due to the slowing economy. The Trinity church council formed a committee to see if there was interest in purchasing a new organ. Nearly $13,000 was pledged by the congregation in four weeks and the congregation voter’s assembly authorized the purchase. The organ was purchased and installed in June.

More information will be coming soon.
