Luke 9:28-36

The Transfiguration

28 Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white. 30 And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah, 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. 33 And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said. 34 As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!” 36 And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.

Life Together

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance. On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand the card to an usher.

Sunday Morning Bible Study: 8:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall. All are welcome to attend. The topic we are studying is:

The Augsburg Confession: Lutheran Doctrine and Practice Today

The Augsburg Confession is just as relevant to the life of the Church today as it was during sixteenth century Reformation.

Topics include but are not limited to:

Biblical marriage and the civil government

How to approach church fellowship with all Christians

The important roles of clergy and laity, according to Scripture

Reformation heresies we still see in the Church today

Persecution and terrorism.

Rachel Circle will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, at Kayla Brown’s home, 1200 N. Oak.

Ash Wednesday Service will be at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6 in Creston. Throughout Lent, Wednesday evening Lenten services will also begin at 6:00 p.m. in Creston. On the weeks when there are elders meetings, board meetings and council meetings those will be held after the services. On the weeks when F.L.O.C.K. meets it will begin at 5:00 p.m. Looking ahead, Easter will be on April 21 with Divine Service in Creston at 8:00 a.m., breakfast served by the youth following the service, and 10:00 Divine Service in Mt. Ayr.

Fellowship Time Following Lenten Services: Starting the evening of Wednesday, March 13 there will be fellowship time after the 6:00 pm Lenten service. Everyone is invited down to the fellowship hall for refreshments and fellowship. There is a sign up sheet on the table in the Narthex for any group or individual that would like to bring bars, cookies or cakes. The weeks of March 13, 20, 27, April 3 and 10 are available. The evening of March 6th, which is Ash Wednesday, we will not gather, as that is when we reflect, with the ashes on our foreheads, that from dust we came and to dust we will return.

Elders will meet on Wednesday, March 6 after the Ash Wednesday service.

Daylight Saving Time; Remember to spring forward one hour on Saturday, March 9 for the beginning of Daylight Saving Time which begins next Sunday morning.

LOST: Two of the children’s bags and contents (clipboard, crayons, children’s bulletin) are missing from the basket in the back of the church. If anyone finds a bag, you may place it in the basket or drop it off on the counter in the office.

Devotional Book Recommendation: If you are looking for a good devotional book, Pastor Rutz would recommend the book titled “Why Am I Joy:Fully Lutheran?” by Matthew C. Harrison. This devotional treatment of the Six Chief Parts of the Small Catechism centers on joy, specifically identifying what it means to be fully Lutheran, and joyfully so—-Joyfully Lutheran. This book is available through Concordia Publishing House. Their website is www.cph.org.

Attention High School Youth and Parents: Iowa District West is sponsoring a FREE Road Trip to Concordia University in Seward, NE on Thursday, April 4-Friday, April 5. This is for a visit of the campus to see what Concordia has to offer. There is no cost to you for transportation, meals, or lodging. Information sheets are available on the table in the narthex. Feel free to take a sheet home with you to read all about it.

MISSIONS

MOVIE NIGHT!! TONIGHT, March 3rd there will be a movie presentation of "Risen", which will begin at 6:00 pm. The movie lasts about 1½ hours. We will take a real brief break about half way thru, just to stretch or reload your plates with snacks. Everyone can bring their favorite snack to share, but you don't have to. We will provide popcorn. You can also bring a friend!! The pop machine is available with a good choice of sodas. This movie is a good family movie and is at a very appropriate time, as the Lenten season will begin just a few days afterwards. The Mission Board hopes that many of you will plan to attend.
