Announcements: June 29, 2025
Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church
Third Sunday after Pentecost on June 29, 2025
For your own personal reading at home this week.
I Kings 19:9b-21
Galatians 5:1, 13-25
51 When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. 52 And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. 53 But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. 54 And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”[a] 55 But he turned and rebuked them.[b] 56 And they went on to another village.
57 As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 59 To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60 And Jesus[c] said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61 Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” 62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

LIFE TOGETHER
VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.
He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after this morning’s service.
Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance. Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.
On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand it to an usher as you go up for communion.
If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.
Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.
Children in the Divine Service Sheets are available from the basket in the back of the church. Parents are encouraged to read these to/with their children. Each week will have a short explanation of a different part of the church service or about something found in the church. They are other way to aid parents in teaching their children.
Portals of Prayer are available to pick up as you leave today’s service. A few large print ones are in the basket if you’d prefer that size.
Old Portals: Please bring your old Portals to church and place them in the box below the mailboxes. They will be used at the Iowa State Fair.
Invitation: The Historical Village at McKinley Park will be hosting a Old & Favorites Hymns Sing-Along this afternoon, June 29 beginning at 2:00. The community is invited to attend.

Building Healthy Families: Someone once said you know you are Lutheran if you feel guilty about not feeling guilty enough. That’s only funny because it’s true! It’s easy for us to hold on to guilt, but the effects of doing so are detrimental to physical, emotional and spiritual wellness. Studies show that unresolved guilt and negative thinking increase the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline. Too many stress hormones increase heart rate, blood pressure and inflammation throughout the body. Our relationships with others and God become distant when guilt separates us. Go to the source of lasting help to be cleansed from guilt (Psalm 51, 1 John 1:5-10, Hebrews 10:19-23) and talk with your pastor or an LFS counselor if you are stuck.
