October 21, 2018 The Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost

Post date: Oct 18, 2018 4:24:50 PM

For the Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost on Oct. 21, 2018.

Ecclesiastes 5:10-20

Hebrews 4:113 (14-16)

Mark 10:23-31

23 And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!” 24 And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again, “Children, how difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” 26 And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, “Then who can be saved?” 27 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.” 28 Peter began to say to him, “See, we have left everything and followed you.” 29 Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, 30 who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

LIFE TOGETHER

VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card (found in the pew rack) and to list names of each family member in attendance. On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand the card to an usher.

Youth Fundraiser: Last Sunday, the Trinity Youth Group decorated pumpkins. The pumpkins are on display in the fellowship hall this morning and will be again on Oct. 28. Next Sunday, Oct. 28m you may make a free will donation to the youth group and take one of the pumpkins home.

FAMILY FALL FESTIVAL

Trinity Preschool will be hosting a Family Fall Festival TODAY, October 21, 2018 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the church. Weather permitting, all or most most activities will be outdoors. Activities will include fall games, a photo booth, bakewalk, leaf prints, a bouncy house, popcorn, and candy. All families are welcome. There will be a cost of $8.00 per family and the funds will be used for Trinity Preschool as they work towards achieving National Lutheran Schools Accreditation. All are welcome to attend and it is open to the public.

The Annual Circuit Reformation Service will be held 4:00 pm at St. Paul, Lutheran Church in Clarinda,

TODAY, SUNDAY, October 21. The guest preacher is the Reverend Jeffrey Keuning of Zion, Dexter. Following the service, a soup supper will be served by youth as a fundraiser for Higher Things Conferences next summer. Make plans to join us in celebrating with fellow Lutherans in southwest Iowa the restoration of Gospel to Christ’s Church and the truth of Scripture alone, grace alone, and faith alone. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Reformation Sunday: Next Sunday, October 28, we will observe Reformation Sunday. Holy Communion will be held in Creston and Mt. Ayr.

Pastor Appreciation Potluck: Please plan to come to the Pastor and family Appreciation Potluck NEXT Sunday, October 28th at 5:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Bring your favorite dish to share. We hope all can attend to let Pastor and his family know how blessed Trinity is to have all of them here. See you on the 28th!! From The Mission Board.

Invitations have been completed for the "90 Years of Blessings" celebration, so be watching for them in your mailbox at church or mailbox at home. The celebration is for Sunday, November 18th, with a special Divine Worship Service at 10:00 a.m. and then a catered meal afterwards. We are asking that you complete the response card if you can attend and how many there will be attending from your household. November 4th is the date we need to have the cards returned and placed in a box on the table in the narthex so that food can be ordered. From the "90 Years of Blessings" Committee

Attention All Members! Deb Melzer answered our request to take informal pictures at the Creston location for our 90th anniversary booklet. She continues to take pictures after church in the fellowship hall. She will make arrangements to take pictures of the shut ins at another location. She would like families that can't get the whole family together due to being off at school or other reasons to have info about that person/persons available to her. Thank you for your cooperation.

MISSIONS

After selling the rest of our LWML items last week, we have had a tremendous total of $1,134.00 taken in for MITES. We had a fabulous Sunday on the 7th, with a very special service that Pastor helped us with. We thank everyone for contributing to the LWML so we can continue to spread the Gospel to all the world. Since LWML started in 1942, we have collected over $100 million dollars. Because of your very generous hearts we can keep donating to our district and national grants and we are able to Serve the Lord With Gladness. From the LWML

Thank you: We received a thank you from the LC Clinic for the generous gifts of baby bundle items that were gathered at the recent LWML rally. The thank you is on the table in the narthex.

The large LWML Mite Box will be sitting out today and during the whole month of October. Based on the Biblical account of the widow's mite, the Mite Box is intended for regular contributions of "mites"-offerings above and beyond the support given to the congregation and the Synod.

The 10th Annual IOWAY Banquet for Iowa District West will be held on Saturday, November 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson, IA, beginning with registration at 4:30. Some information sheets about the banquet are available on the table in the narthex. If you plan to attend you will need to make a reservation and information about how to do so is included on the information sheet.
