THE SECOND SUNDAY IN ADVENT(DECEMBER 4, 2011)

Post date: Dec 2, 2011 2:59:07 PM

Witness

Join us for Advent Service this Wednesday night at 7pm. Our sermon series is on Isaiah 40: "Comfort, Comfort, My People"

Join us for Family Bible Study on December 18. "The Real Saint Nick" A Video Bible study, hosted by the Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus-Speaker of The Lutheran Hour, examines a man who, next to Jesus Christ, is the most visible figure during the holidays-St. Nicholas or Santa Claus-as we know him in Western culture. Dating back to the third century, St. Nick is attributed with the doing of many benevolent and charitable acts of kindness and generosity. Revered and honored by Christians the world over, St. Nick has a resume of accomplishments and good deeds even the most celebrated saint would be envious of.

WHERE DOCTRINE IS LIFE... Issues, Etc. is a radio talk show hosted by LCMS Pastor Todd Wilken and produced by Lutheran Public Radio. Topics include: The Angel Gabriel Visits Mary, The Imprisonment of John the Baptist, Saint Nicholas, 4th Century Bishop Ambrose of Milan and more. You can listen at your convenience at www.issuesetc.org.

Mercy

Building Healthy Families: “We love because He first loved us” 1 John 4:19. This simple verse can sum up our core values here at LFS. We strive to show love to those who need it through our counseling, pregnancy, and adoption ministries. Through these various roles our counselors are able to provide a Christ-centered approach and serve those who need it most in love. Lutheran Family Service of Iowa (515)251-4900

Life Quote: “Of all of the Greek words used for child, brephos connotes a baby or very small child. That’s the word attributed to Elizabeth: ‘The brephos leaped in my womb for joy.’ We see the same word in the next chapter: ‘Ye shall find the brephos wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.’ And in 2 Timothy 3:15 Paul uses the same word: ‘From a brephos thou hast known the holy Scriptures …” The same word is used for a child in the womb, a child newly born, and a child sometime after birth.” Col.
