Jesus Calls Philip and Nathanael

43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46 Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” 48 Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” 49 Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” 50 Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” 51 And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

VISITORS

We are so glad you joined us today. We do collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received form God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz at

782-5095. He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you.

LIFE TOGETHER

LUTHERAN WITNESS SUBSCRIPTIONS: It’s the time of year to renew subscriptions to the Lutheran Witness magazine or to begin a new subscription for those who would like to receive the magazine. The Lutheran Witness is an official publication of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. It is published 11 months during the year (June/July are combined) and includes the Iowa District West news. The price also covers shipping and handling. The price of the subscription is $22.67/year. There is an envelope in the back of your 2018 offering envelope box that is labeled Lutheran Witness. Payment may be put in that envelope and placed in the church offering plate any Sunday. Then Trinity pays for all the subscriptions in one lump sum.

If you already receive the Lutheran Witness check your mailbox (Creston) for a note to see if your address is current. A list of current subscribers was sent to Mt. Ayr, too.

For anyone who would like to begin a new subscription, please sign up on the sheet found on the table (Creston) or on a sheet sent in Mt. Ayr transfer box.

Please turn in these sheets to Linda, in the office, no later than Sunday, February 11.

EARLY RISERS meet every Tuesday, at 6:30 a.m. We are currently reading and discussing the book of Proverbs. You are welcome to join us for God’s Word, and coffee, either regularly or occasionally. There is no charge.

BIRTHDAY PARTY: Trinity Creston is starting the year of its 90th birthday! Let’s begin the year with a birthday celebration of cake and games on January 21st at 3:30pm in the Fellowship Hall in Creston. We just need a few cakes and we’re good to go! Check out the sign-up sheet in the Narthex. Grab a friend and sign up to make a cake and decorate a table! If you would like to help with some games please talk to Julie Lang.

Reminder: When you stop by the church during the week and the doors are locked, please refer to the note on the door and ring the doorbell. As the procedure has been for a number of years now, the doors are locked for the safety of the preschool kids.

LifeLight Bible Study will begin Monday, February 5, at 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, February 6 at 1:00 p.m. We will study the epistles of John. Dr. Luther wrote this about the epistles of John: “The first epistle of John is a genuine apostolic epistle and ought to follow right after his gospel. For as in the epistle he promulgates faith, so here he opposes those who boast of faith without works. John also writes vigorously here against the Corinthians, against the spirit of the Antichrist. The other two epistles are not doctrinal, but examples of love and of faith.” For information and study materials, contact Mike or Janette Lang.

The Clarinda Lutheran School will be hosting the 15th Annual German Dinner and Silent Auction on Sunday, Feb. 4 from 11-1. It’s a freewill meal but they do need reservations to be made. See a poster they sent for more information and a phone number to make your reservations.

MISSIONS

Used Portals of Prayer can be placed in the box located below the mailboxes. These will be distributed next summer at the Iowa State Fair. Thank you.

DIAPER DRIVE: A diaper drive will begin on January 1, 2018 and continue through the whole month. This drive is to help out the Life Care Clinic here in Creston. Diapers that are needed are Huggies & Pampers in sizes 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5, but any brand will be appreciated. The most requested diaper size is 3. All diapers can be dropped off at the Clinic or brought to church and put in a receiving blanket lined basket in the narthex.

The Creston Clinic hours are: Monday 10-2; Tuesday & Thursday 1-7. The address is: 1109 S. Sumner, Creston, IA 50801. 641-782-2150.

Thank you in advance for helping out the families at the LC Clinic. From The Mission Board

LWML MITE BOX: The large LWML MITE box will be sitting at the back of the church during the whole month of January. These MITE offerings go to help fund both the district and national levels for Mission Grants. A Mission Grant of $100,000.00 that was just voted in by delegates at the June 2017 LWML Convention in Albuquerque has already been fully funded and paid in full. This Mission Grant is called Current Missionary Need and is otherwise known as Mission Central, located in Mapleton, Iowa, which is where a number of Trinity members traveled to this last July. To God be the glory!!
