Lutheran Witness Subscriptions

It is time to renew subscriptions to the Lutheran Witness magazine. The Lutheran Witness is a publication of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and contains articles that interpret the contemporary world from a Lutheran Christian perspective. Pastor Rutz feels that this is an essential resource for every Lutheran Christian. Included in each issue is a section with articles about news and events in Iowa District West. The cost of a year’s subscription is $22.67.

The question was raised as to why this price is different than what is listed in the subscription options in the magazine. Concordia Publishing House was contacted to find out the answer . Here is their reply. Thank you for your Lutheran Witness inquiry. Your cost is a discounted group price for the Lutheran Witness with the Iowa district newsletter published in it. The normal cost for the magazine you get is $24.99. The cost published in the magazine itself is without any coordination and insertion of your Iowa West district news.

On the table in the narthex is a list of people who currently subscribe. If you wish to renew your subscription circle YES next to your name. If you do not wish to renew your subscription please circle NO. If you would like to begin a subscription please add your name to the list and provide your current address. For payment, use the Lutheran Witness envelope found in the front of your box of offering envelopes and place it in the offering plate by February 12.

Information about the 14th annual Clarinda Lutheran School German Dinner is on the table in the narthex. It will be Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 11 a.m. –1 p.m. Cost of the meal is a free will donation.

EARLY RISERS meet every Tuesday, at 6:30 a.m. We are currently reading and discussing the prophet, Isaiah. You are welcome to join us for God’s Word, coffee and doughnuts either regularly or occasionally. There is no charge.

LifeLight Bible Study will begin Monday, February 6, at 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, February 7 at 1:00 p.m. We will study of the book of John, Part one. Dr. Luther wrote this about the book of John: “Therefore the evangelist [John] is a master above all the other evangelists, for he treats of this doctrine of Christ’s divinity and His humanity persistently and diligently. He joins these two natures together. When Christ becomes man, He speaks to us, performs miracles, and dies according to His humanity. And then His divinity is also established with plain words.” For information and study materials, contact Mike or Janette Lang.

MISSIONS

A diaper drive continues throughout January. This drive is to help out the Life Care Clinic here in Creston. Diapers that are needed are Huggies, Pampers & Luvs in sizes 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5, but any brand will be appreciated. The most requested diaper size is 3. All diapers can be dropped off at the Clinic or brought to church and put in a receiving blanket lined basket in the narthex.

The Creston Clinic hours are: Monday 10-2; Tuesday & Thursday 1-7. The address is: 1109 S. Sumner, Creston, IA 50801. 641-782-2150.

If you have questions you can talk to Hannah Shady or any member of the Mission Board.

Thank you in advance for helping out the families at the LC Clinic. From The Mission Board.

Baby Bundles: The LWML continues to accept items for the Baby Bundles, which could be used for a girl or boy. These are given out at the Life Care Clinic here in Creston. Some of the newborn sized items are: onesies, booties/socks, sleepers, caps, burp bibs and diapers. Also included in a bundle is a Bible, prayer book and a mustard seed devotion; these items are then wrapped in a receiving blanket. These items can always be placed in the basket located in the narthex. If anyone ever has a question or concern you can always talk with Hannah Shady or Maggie Dory. Thank you to everyone for helping to support this important ongoing Mission project.
